Was able to book in the Alitalia website. It shows business seat which I was able to pick. Will see what happens. Thanks op!

Booked through Expedia.

On the trip page, it clearly says:

Fare type: Basic Economy
Cabin: Business (E)
Also: Ticketing in progress. No need to call to reconfirm.

How soon after booking did AZ cancel the previous 'debacles'?

Just looked it up on flying blue, but Alitalia shows indeed business for E and 200% miles

SPAARSCHEMA ALITALIA

SPAARPERCENTAGE VOOR REIS- EN BOEKINGSKLASSEN:
  • First Class – n.v.t.
  • Business Class – J, C, D, I, E: 200%
  • Premium Economy – A, P: 150%
  • Economy Class – Y, B, M, H: 100%; K, V, T, N, S, Q, X: 50%; W, O, L, G, F: 25%

Very strange. Definitely seems to be a Basic Economy fare - e.g. Expedia is stating the following:

Important Flight Information

  • Tickets are non-refundable 24 hours after booking and non transferable. Name changes are not allowed.
  • Fare Rules and Restrictions:
  • Airline assigns your seats (groups and families may not sit together)
  • Bring a carry-on bag
  • Pay to check your bags
  • Cancellations are permitted within 24 hours of booking. After 24 hours, tickets are non-refundable.
  • Changes are not permitted
  • Bring a personal item
  • Not eligible for upgrades
  • Board in last group
But then it is also showing it as (E) Business

Hmmm ....

I booked using Amex Travel as I wasnt keen on dealing with AZ if something were to go wrong. Amex confirmation clearly says fare is Business (E) but when I log into AZ website for manage by booking - there is no mention about the cabin or seats. Fingers crossed this sticks!

But to LAX AF only flies the A380 if I'm correct/what I can see? That's a horrible J hard product which is not even fully flat.. I do like the AF soft product though.

I was able to pick a seat for the outbound TATL leg from the KLM app (CDG-LAX) on the A380 in J, got 60A

I didn't go for the AF one as the connection time was a bit harsh. This is a brilliant fare if it sticks and hopefully, Cathay has raised the bar as to how airlines have to behave with such fares

Booked for beginning of April. Have a ly flat with Air France, Delta and Alitalia. Back and forth to LAX. Great chance to try them all and get some sunshine on the West Coast. Sit and waiting game has begun, I guess.

I can't believe people are complaining about "it's not lie-flat" on a $580 (!!!!!!!) fare.
