Visa Information: check out the Vietnam visa/VOA thread in the Asia forum. You can get either a visa on arrival where you get the stamp on arrival) or a "looseleaf" visa in advance from a VN Consulate in the US (which allows you to go straight to the immigration queue). There are sometimes lines for the VOA stamp and so the loosleaf approach can save you some time.
Seat Assignments
per NWPlatinum below - Cathay blocks out all seats except for 2D for some reason. I never understood the reasoning behind this but in any event just contact them for a seat assignment and they’ll let you have your choice. They like to block out seats for people with bassinets and babies. But you can usually get 2A, which is the best see if you’re solo traveler. Just say I want seat 2A and I’ll move if requested at the airport (never was asked to move)

Everyone needs an e-visa approval before boarding if they will enter the country. (e.g. clear customs). Connecting flights - even on separate tickets - do not require a visa IF IF IF the connecting airline has a counter in the transit area. (The airline may have their own rules.) Going back to the same country is not allowed without clearing customs first.
Expect the visa check at your point of departure. (Computer will flag your ticket.) The actual stamp is received on arrival (in most cases). (There is also the possibility of a visa insert with no need to go to 'visa on arrival'.)

I saw the same thing... yet I am still holding a F in November. You cannot find the flight if you search, but when I look at my reservation it is still there and I can even change seats! It has been that way for a month.
I suspect they will get around to it in the next few weeks. Or maybe I will get to fly all by myself on a Cargo run in First! I don't even need the FA's. Just leave me some bottles of Krug and some tins of caviar and the fixings.

believe what we're seeing is the difference between a flight being zeroed out (availability =0) vs cancelled. If you search on ITA but uncheck the "Only show flights and prices with available seats" box, it shows they still have flights with F from Oct 2, those flights just have no available seats. They will likely get around to cancelling the October flights completely within the next week or so.

My concern based on what happened with the last round of cancellations is that they did not allow me to choose a date to which to move the flights when I rebooked. They insisted I take the first available date with seats available for booking.
That is not reasonable.
My personal/work schedule cannot revolve around when CX decides to operate a flight.
It is my hope they will be a little reasonable this time.

While I would agree it is not, but CX has made multiple accommodations to allow folks to move their travel dates well beyond the normal 1-year ticket expiration period; CX could have easily said too bad, take it or leave it (refund), with no other options.

I believe they would run into some problems with their CoC if they were to attempt that tactic.

Seems pretty clear that you can choose the second option which allows for dates in the future, "within a reasonable period of time".

Cathay has been excellent with me on moving these tickets to future dates, honoring their Contract of Carriage. Here is the CoC. Go to section 10.

I have one more scheduled later this year in First. We have all seen First zeroed out in the schedule. However, the flight is not canceled in the reservation system so they can't touch it yet. (It is also not available for purchase, nor can you find it if you do a search.) When it gets canceled in the system, I will need to push it back well into next year. Is that "within a reasonable period of time"? I guess I will find out when I email to change it.
