You could do two of these back to back, for example out 12/5 return 12/6, and out 12/7 return 12/8.
Here is some more information about the trip.

LAX-DFW-ICN-DFW-LAX (also available from LAS) is another possibility for about $2400, 32160 EQM from LAX, available many days the last two weeks of December.

Miles Needed:18,500 EQM
Required Spend or Budget:Cheap as possible
Available Travel Dates:Pretty open, but Fridays through Monday's are probably best
Required Metal or Codeshares okay:AA
Thanks!

SNA to ORD is $152 on 12/3 and 12/10, although not non-stops. This might be your best bet.

LAX-ORD-LAX day trip 12/10 is $132.

MR Ideas: AA/OW 3 Dec and 10 Dec
I have the weekends of 2-4 Dec & 9-11 Dec (Fri-Sun) to rack up 40K EQMs. Have already held the tried-and-true DFW-NRT-CGK-NRT-DFW for each weekend (~US$1650 ai combined), but thought one of you enterprising MR experts might have some other ideas utilizing the same days and roughly the same price point to different destinations (already been to these cities).
Thanks in advance!
EDIT:
Mods.....apologies. This should have been in the sticky.

American Airlines Mileage run - help?
I currently have 174,225 miles and need 9,558 miles of EQM to reach Platinum status on American. I have the following trip planned for business and am hoping it will get me there so I don't have to take another trip.
I would like to use miles to upgrade to business class on the LAX-LHR leg so I'm afraid I'll mess up the calculation. Will I be ok with the upgrade or should I abandon that idea?
LAX > LHR 5,456 miles
LHR > FCO 899 miles
LHR > LAX 5,456 miles
Total actual miles: 11,811
Total spent: $1,036.46
Will this get me to Platinum or do I need to take another quick trip - and if so, how far/spend?
This is all so confusing!
Thanks for any help/advice.
