If you are doing a status challenge, the answer is also probably yes, but read the T&C of your challenge carefully to be sure (for the regular status challenge the answer is also "yes")

- signup bonuses for various DL-branded AMEX cards (usually have a spend requirement)
- if you already have planned travel, consider buying up (in advance, not at check in) for 50% MQM bonus and more flexible same-day-confirmed options which are another way to increase MQMs
- Hilton 250 MQMs per stay of 2 nights or more
- if you are close to a threshold Delta often will offer a buy-up (at exorbitant prices). 2016 thread, and speculation/anticipation thread for 2017

LAX-MAD is available from around $550 roundtrip, but you'll need to leave on a Friday and spend Saturday night in Madrid. LAX-HKG is $571 (via SEA) on 10/2 - 10/4 and you can fly the final HKG-SEA flight. Again, an overnight is involved. The HKG joint Skyteam lounge is pretty nice if you have access (Gold+).
Domestically, you could do back-to-back LAX-MCO red-eye runs for about $500 in main cabin. LAX-MCO-SEA-LAX on 12/1 - 12/2 and LAX-MCO-SLC-LAX on 12/2 - 12/3. No hotel stays needed.
PHX-CHI day trips available for $268 in main cabin in early December. About 4400 MQM's with ATL routing.

One consideration is a flight on a partner airline which earns MQD based on mileage.
For example, JFK-PVG-SIN-PVG-JFK on China Eastern, October 8 - 10, $730, earning about 20,000 MQM and $2040 MQD (booking classes R-B-B-T). You would need a positioning flight to JFK
