Is the fare being honored? For all carriers? Yes, and yes, so far it seems we have EY, EK, QR and BA segments that seem to have worked fine.
Can I make changes to my ticket before I fly the first segment? There haven't been any reports of this yet. While technically you should be able to make changes to other than the first segment prior to flying, it's unlikely you'll get an agent to do that. If you booked through a travel agent, your agent may be able to do this. If you booked through an online OTA, it's unlikely. But give it a try and report back.
Can I make changes once I have flown the first segment? There is at least one report from a FT member that they checked with a BA agent in London about changing routing and moving to the LHR-LAX A380 and that member didn't get any resistance or any indication there would be any amount collected (this FT member ultimately didn't make the change so the ticket wasn't actually reissued). From all reports, BA hasn't done anything to mark these fares, so being what they are (fully flex F), you should be able to make changes in LHR, even rerouting and your transAtl segment and adding additional segments within the US on AA, assuming there is space at the last minute.

Depends on if they're AA coded or BA coded and whether you have elite status or not. Also depends on what program you credit to - below are the numbers for AAdvantage.
Base Miles:
DXB-LHR - 3421
LHR-LAX - 5456
LAX-AUS - 1242
BA Coded Flights get you:
DXB-LHR
EQM = 3421
EQP = 5131
RDM = 5131 (non Elite), 6842 (AA Gold), 8552 (AA Plat and EXP)
LHR-LAX
EQM = 5456
EQP = 8184
RDM = 8184 (non Elite), 10912 (AA Gold), 13640 (AA Plat and EXP)
LAX-AUS
EQM = 1242
EQP = 1863
RDM = 1863 (non Elite), 2484 (AA Gold), 3105 (AA Plat and EXP)
AA Coded Flights get you (assuming you take the flights are 5/15/2015):
DXB-LHR
EQM = 3421
EQP = 6842 (booked in A), 10263 (booked in F)
RDM = 11131 (non Elite), 12842 (AA Gold), 14552 (AA Plat), 20552 (AA EXP)
LHR-LAX
EQM = 5456
EQP = 10912 (booked in A), 16368 (booked in F)
RDM = 14184 (non Elite), 16912 (AA Gold), 19640 (AA Plat), 25640 (AA EXP)
LAX-AUS
EQM = 1242
EQP = 2484 (booked in A), 3726 (booked in F)
RDM = 2363 (non Elite), 2984 (AA Gold), 4005 (AA Plat), 4105 (AA EXP)
This is a very quick estimate so there might be errors in it. I recommend you double check the calculations before taking them as accurate I can't recall if the fare books into A or F fare buckets so for the AA coded flights I've given both numbers as a guide. I've also assumed you're flying on either a BA or AA operated flight.

I wonder how they will handle changes that require re-validation? The rules say, regarding changes, that if there are no changes to the first fare component (I assume that means the first segment of the route?), but other fare components are changed, the itinerary must be re-rpiced using historical fares in effect the day the ticket was issued, or current prices, whichever is lower.
Since the fares on the day of ticketing were a mistake, do they still have to honour those as the 'historical' price?
As in, if I'm flying DXB-LHR-LAX-AUS, can I keep the DXB-LHR sector as is, but then change the rest? I read earlier in this thread that no, you'd never get a stopover in LHR due to a HIP check, if thats the case, what about stopovers in LAX? Which rule (either the HIP check or the change rule above) applies?

Dxb-aus tickets voided
Earlier this morning I received the following notice in my mailbox, from someone at the HKG sales office:
Dear Mr Z,
Sorry to bother you.
Regarding booking #, # and # those bookings' fare are invalid due to system error. Fares are not able to honour any more. Those tickets had been voided by system automatically. If you got any problem, please kindly contact local British Airways for further details and arrangement.
Best regards,

Just had mine cancelled. No explanation just an automated e-mail that indicated that I had initiated the cancellation mysel (Amex Travel).
Anyone else?
Edit: In saying 'just', the e-mail came through 2 hours ago. Did I chose OTA poorly?

I think in this case, there is only one fare component and it was not a multi-fare itinerary. My guess is that any changes before the first leg is flown will be repriced

I've already booked refundable positioning flights. The price on this sale is not much less than what airlines have been publishing ex Sri Lanka so why should this be a mistake? Sri Lanka is further away and routed through DXB and London as well. What makes this any different. I've been considering moving to Austin and happened to run into this fare. I would not be looking at business class prices as I prefer to fly long haul F. BA F is going to suck compared to my CX F to HKG on the way over

FWIW, I suspect you greedy .......s snagged all availability on EK & EY legs fairly quickly. I tried numerous combos circa 10-11pm CST and was unable to find anything out of DXB except on BA metal. The AUH-via-bus thing didn't work, either. (Also, AA was on to the gambit by then, so I couldn't book codeshares on aa.com and get 3x EQMs.)
Also, not only have my flights not been cancelled, I was able to use my PL-provided BA booking reference to go onto their website and select seats for my two BA legs. (As of this writing, it's nearly 2pm UK time, so they would have figured out what happened by now.) I know we're not supposed to call, but obviously the secret is out so I assumed using their website wouldn't hurt! Anyway, I, too will be curious to see what happens, e.g. if some airlines (or OTAs) try to cancel fares and others don't.
One side note: is anyone else here aware that BA flies LHR-AUS nonstop? It's a comparatively new route, launched last year, but I wonder if it had anything to do with this particular pricing. That said, they (somewhat ironically) only fly their 787-8 metal on the route, and none of their Dreamliners have F sections on it (just Club World). Anyway, I didn't try to book it only because I've never flown F on BA, plus I have a fairly speedy layover at ORD, but I'm curious if anyone attempted it. (I know J priced out higher than F on these flights, but wasn't sure if that included trying to book F but getting J as the default.)
