Flight Changes
Many changes have been made due to Etihad schedule changes. In some cases, connecting flights are being swapped to nonstops. Some have been able to get this changed back by calling Etihad, others have not. You may have to repeat call / HUCA to get it switched back.

Update 12/28/14: Etihad will honor the fare per Forbes article.

AUH (Abu Dhabi) (Check Groupon):
Grand Mosque [wiki] [map]
Kayak the mangroves [trip advisor] [map]
Ferrari World [trip advisor] [map]
Dune bashing/camel ride [trip advisor]

Hotels:
Qsar al Sarab

CPT (Capetown):
Take cable car to top of Table Mountain

JNB (Johannesburg):
Nelson Mandela Square (JNB) / also visit Butchers steak restaurant there

For JNB/CPT:
- use uber (safe and cheap) / if you travel to Sandton(JNB): use Gautrain from Airport. / review travel advise and do's/don'ts for traveling in JNB city.
- Tons of cheap flights btw CPT and JNB. Always use booking portals like orbitz, skyscanner, etc. to find good fares (for example on Kulula, BA, SAA, Mango, etc.)

MNL (Manila):
Ask on FT (in Destinations) - There are too many islands and beaches in the Philippines to list here.

Almost all of Asia is under $200 with LCCs

hahaha...wrong.

I am done with this conversation. It is obvious you know nothing about the AA program and can't even comprehend what others have said.

For everyone else: you will earn RDM for EY coded AA metal flights and EY coded EY metal flights that are not US-AUH (e.g. DUB-AUH, AUH-JNB, etc.).

And EQM for all EY codes, AA operated US-EU flights!

So, I got hit with a schedule change on my AUH-DFW inbound on 4/27. I've read the thread and I'm seeing conflicting stories about who to call first. Should I call EY or Big O to get rescheduled?

I just got off the phone with the Big O and after a few HUCA I was able to get a better flight after my 11/5 JFK-AUH flight was moved three hours. They moved it to EY100 on 11/4. Hey, a few more hours on the ground is good with me!

Has there been any inclination that Etihad will be inclined to move an AA metaled JFK - MAN - AUH to a nonstop Etihad flight? My travel is before the schedule change date in late March.

My guess is no, and will call and confirm but wanted to offer q to the masses first.

If you ask I'm sure they will give it to you. They're financially obligated to AA when your butt is in one of their seats, however, there is less cost to recoup when you fly only on EY.

I was in the exact same situation - JFK-MAN-AUH-MAN-JFK with JFK-MAN-JFK operated by AA and MAN-AUH-MAN operated by EY.

Etihad sent me an e-mail 10 days ago that they rebooked me for the JFK-AUH-JFK direct flights. I called them back right away to reinstate my original flights as I pointed out that due to status with AA, I get access to extra legroom seats for free and would rather split the trip in 2 shorter flights than 1 long one. Unfortunately, original fare class was unavailable, so I was put on a waiting list. After several phone calls - including one to Orbitz who informed me that once Etihad exchanged the ticket, they took control of it, so Orbitz could no longer assist, I finally got through a call center in the UK and they did reinstate my original flights on the outbound but asked if it was OK to do the direct on the return, which I preferred for no other reason but preclearance available at AUH.

So, bottom line - Etihad is very eager to keep you on EY-metal and if they haven't pro-actively switched you to direct flights, you can try contacting them and inquire if that's an option for you given that others have been offered that option. Good Luck!

Dude, I just Googled this.

If you're on AA ticket stock, you earn EQM's, if you're on EY ticket stock, you only get RDM's.

I'm kind of surprised they're being so proactive in doing that. Keeping an eye on my own itinerary for changes.

Hey guys, long-time lurker, first-time poster here! Thanks to FT, I booked 2xJFK-AUH-MNL (via PL) tickets on that wonderful Christmas morning. I just checked the itinerary today, and it looks like my flight to MNL is arriving a whole day later due to the tweaks in the schedule. I called up Etihad, but the operator was reluctant to do anything; according to him, there might be some more changes within a couple of days. I had a question - was anyone else successful moving their entire itinerary a day earlier? I booked a flight leaving from Manila a couple of weeks ago, and won't be able to make it with this new schedule.

Same for me but it doesn't seem to have any material effect so I'm not worrying about it.

I was able to with Orbitz but it took several HUCA to finally get an agent willing to press EY to make the change.

Thanks and lucky you! I'll try calling Priceline tomorrow. Btw, what was your reasoning behind re-scheduling?

I'm a teacher and when I booked I selected dates I had off (Thurs-Sun) plus two personal days at the end. After I received the schedule change I became a little curious if there was a late flight on Wednesday which would allow me to maximize my time in the UAE. When I saw there was, I figured there was no harm in pushing for the late Wednesday flight. Worst case: they say no, I lose three hours due to a schedule change. Best case: I arrive in AUH 17 hours earlier and in reality gain a full day on the ground.
