Although the RGN deal was F and C, positioning to ORY is somewhat easier, and doesn't require any visa, which the three later (of four) RGN runs learned me.
Trust me...SYD/SYD runs in Y wasnt problem either. I see you are AA EXP - just enjoy the QF lounges in SYD/SIN and you will have a good time.

By the way, if you need help planning a day in SYD let me know. A tip... I walked to Wolli Creek station (15min walk) from the airport and back to save on the SYD gate fees. Paid 6$ for return to the city, in place of 35$.

Thanks for the tip. Unless burning heat, which I dont expect in Sydney winter, a 15 min walk x 2 will do me fine after sitting in Y for so long.

I am back from SIN/SYD flight. Everything OK but, I had problem at imigration desk in SYD. I had to explain why I fly to SYD only for a few hours. I showed them pictures in my camera and Ipad that I am a planespotter. Three times I explained everything about this MR. More than 30 min. In the end I promised that I will come to longer time next time :-).

Perhaps unsurprising, there cannot be many people who do a daytrip to Australia! Was the delay at immigration or customs?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (BB10; Touch) AppleWebKit/537.35+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/10.2.1.3247 Mobile Safari/537.35+)

Landed in SYD a couple of hours ago, only question was when my next flight was, just put IN TRANSIT where it asks for intended address in Australia.

Where it all started:

Dec 1 IB 7629/IB 7443 DXB 2:35AM MAD 10:50AM 11h 15m via LHR
Dec 2 IB 3160/IB 7624 MAD 9:10AM DXB 11:35PM 11h 25m via LHR
Dec 3 IB 7573/IB 7507 DXB 10:05AM ORY 6:40PM 11h 35m via LHR

I don't quite understand all of the restrictions on the fare, but it appear that:
- You have to leave Paris on the 30th and arrive at your first stopover that same day.
- Your return leg needs to be on Dec 1st or later.
- Flights must have IB numbers but can be operated by other airlines

As a caveat, I believe that AAdvantage will credit these miles at 80%, as long as the operating carrier is OneWorld, but that's still 3.5cpm.

Surprised to see someone else but OP claiming credit for publishing this fare, which correctly has been pointed out is a PAR-MAD fare, whith extremely liberal routing rules.

Wating for the mighty SYD/SYD in a month, I feel we're all grateful to nikitab for sharing this fare information. One Cheers from every lounge this travel may take us!

If you're unencumbered by bags it's quite a nice walk, especially holding the thought of saving a significant amount of $$

I missed a segment on this run, the LHR-MAD. It was a nightmare trying to have the rest of my segments not to get cancelled. I rebooked the missed segment on Avios. Thankfully it was just the last segment on the outbound portion, and also rebookable on BA.

Lesson: do not miss any flights on complicated, international MRs.

I though the rest of the segments will be cancelled once you miss one
Or was it BA/IB's fault to make you mis-connect?

Normally they do, if you fail to do anything. You generally have to go to an agent to have the remaining ticket segments reinstated and the ticket reissued; given that this is a special fare, that makes it more complicated than usual.

Every time I rang to discuss one of my connecting flights...the agents kept on going your flying here then flying there then woooo...going back there again then here again...
I had to be serious when they were telling me....but the expressions they were saying over the phone were priceless!!lol

I didn't get to eventually experience the MR due to work commitments but maybe next time!!

Everyone who is doing the SYD trip, if you guys want to get shown around for the day...let me know ok or PM me. I'll be more than happy to if I'm not working that day.

How does this process work? Do you ask nicely and beg for reinstatement? Who has the power to reissue the ticket; normal check in and gate agents or only supervisors?

I came back from my JNB/JNB run yesterday morning. Everythin was fine. I just had a few short connections in LHR because of a few delays.

Everybody who's doing the same run I could recommend to have a steak at "The Butcher Shop" in Sandton http://www.thebutchershop.co.za/

I did that both times and was impressed of the quality and service.

We did JNB/JNB back in June. Got a rental car and drove to the Lion Park, had excellent steak in a restaurant called The Steak inside the Silverstar Casino compound (as per the advice from my colleague who is originally from Johannesburg), and then had a quick walk around at Cradle of Humankind. Came back to the airport and enjoyed some nice food in the BA Galleries Club before setting off on A380. All was well.
