The agent did it willingly once I pointed out the mileage issue moving over to LH. I could have done ORD-IAD-DXB-BAH but they didn't try to force me and I was not at all enamored of the prospect of xferring to Fly Dubai/Terminal 2 anyways.

Can anyone give me information on the Visa situation for these countries for US citizens (cost, good link, etc). What kind of Visa would be required for a direct turn?

Curious about this as well. I have been thinking of just paying the fare difference and have my entire return moved to W so I can use an SWU. I've also been waiting for the lower fare buckets to dry up to see if I can force something through Europe to at least have part of the trip upgraded with no out of pocket cost.

Now that I am actually doing two days in Bahrain and thinking of upfaring (UNITED will waive the change fee) this is becoming less of a mileage run and more of a short vacation.

I did a IAD-KWI-BAH same-day turn and didn't need visas in either KWI or BAH, because I stayed "in transit".

FWIW, in KWI, an American doesn't actually need a visa in advance, and can simply get one at the airport counter upon arrival. The Bahrainis prefer that you order a visa on-line for a nominal fee, but they also issue them at the airport upon arrival to Americans.

Again, if you're in transit, you won't need a visa for either KWI or BAH; I only provided the details in case of IRROPs.

I just asked for the ORD-FRA-BAH itinerary and mentioned the lack of mileage accrual in K on LH. The agent booked me in W without any further ado.

UA never informed me of the schedule change; I only picked up on it as a result of seeing this thread. As long as one hasn't acknowledged the schedule change online, I'd think you would have a chance to make the change with a
knowledgeable agent. Good luck.

Citi Premier card/Prestige card people: Don't forget to check that 15%-off booking option to save a few $. Numbers are a little fuzzy when comparing to United.com when checking for upgradable fare classes, but I ended up with Q class eastbound to BAH.
