Compensation

Got an email for compensation on the cancelled 982 on 11/9. My choices are:
1. 30K award miles
2. $600 e-cert for round trip or one way 50 US States + Puerto Rico + USVI published adult base fare, excluding taxes, fees , surcharges, passenger facility fee
3. 20% off e-cert systemwide published adult base fare for F/A/J/C/D/Z/Y/B/M/E/U/H/Q/V/W/S/T/L/K, excluding taxes, fees , surcharges, passenger facility fees (I theorize that YQ is excluded too).

What should I take? Any suggestions?

Tough choice here since the certs are all for discount off base fare, and it seems that I might be better off grabbing the miles instead of any of the certs because 30K is easily one-way award coach to Europe or 2.5K short of a one-way award coach to Asia (if I book before the devaluation becomes effective).

Any suggestion is appreciated.

MadeInTaiwan, I hope your wife survived your additional day of absence.
On another matter, aside from the options given in the email, is the "Airline" not responsible for financial damages due to the fact that they were unable to get you to your destination, within a timely fashion (24 hour delay), due to a situation under its control? Were this a European airline in the same situation, they would be forced to compensate delayed pax to the tunes of hundreds of Euros, in addition to maintaining them on the next available flight, which may or not be with the original airline or a "member alliance" airline. Despite the confusion and additional expense to this airline, it seems as if they got by (or will have gotten by) with little expense. What are the regs in the USA for such a 24 hour delay? I have not seen the CoC; also does the FAA have anything published about such a situation? Anyway, I am glad you all made it back safely.

Any updates on UA1757 of 10NOV?

UA1757 must have landed in BAH by now; any updates from the folks who were trying to turn around and come back on UA1759 of 11NOV?

It should have just landed... 10pm local for scheduled arrival. People are probably getting to gate, lounge, shower, etc.

Nope, the flight landed at 10.26 pm and the return flight has already departed. No time for showers for those who were turning around

There is absolutely nothing wrong with BAH. I did the run two weeks ago, spent one night and a full day site seeing. Doing it again in March with the quick turn around.

I was on that 'replacement' UA 1757 that flew a day later and it was still ridiculous getting wheels up - this time they appeared to have screwed up the passenger load as we were delayed about 45 min (at a guess), while they called out passenger names and tried head counts. In the end I still made my onward connection to Doha with a bit of time to spare (not enough for a much desired shower though). I'm interested to see if the compensation is the same for those who flew, albeit delayed, versus those who bailed. I'm sure one of the others will let you know - I'm waiting until I'm home and can print-screen any choice I make!

Great to meet those of you that I did! I suspect there were a few I met and didn't even realize!

Hi guys, just want to point out this fare is NOT GONE! Not sure if this is legitimate for everyone, but I live in Korea, and if you change your country on the United website to Korea, all one day turns on a Saturday are available from Jan 25 to the March 8. However, you cannot use your U.S. based credit card on the website. What I had to do was call in to United to get it to book at that price for the exact routings that I want and then the csr can take my U.S. based credit card over the phone. Hopefully someone find this useful.

The compensations was the same for me, and it was offered on both UA1757 and UA1759 (I did the return the same day), though can't speak to those that bailed. Good to see a fellow YVR home-based Flyertalker was on same flight! Sorry I missed meeting you (maybe I did and didn't even know it!)

I was only offered $500 each way for both UA 982 on 11/9 and UA1759 11/12.

On the other hand, they did upgrade me to J on the BAH-IAD and I ended up making money on the ticket along with making 1k if the points post as they should.

Have any of your earlier segments posted yet? Like LAX-IAD on 11/09. Mine haven't and I'm hoping the system is just slow.

AFAM-DFW, my UA856 has not been posted yet. And thank you again for your generosity from me, Mrs. & Baby MadeInTaiwan.

I mentioned in prior post about the compensation options I was offered, did you just get a clean systemwide $500?

Nomadic.relief, hope your return FLTs aren't as hectic as the outbound!!

It was my pleasure getting to know y'all over dinner.

As I remember, my options were a 20% off coupon, 22,500 redeemable miles or the $500 ecert per way. For me, taking the $500 wasn't a tough choice. I'm still tickled that I ended up making money on the run even with the extra food cost. The two $7 food vouchers for three meals was rather insulting.

I wonder why some folks got a $600 e-cert and others a $500?

BAH Security

Just back from BAH. I got an evisa in advance. At entry I was asked to step into a room to chat with a security officer. It ended up being no big deal -they kept asking with whom I was meeting (nobody). I explained the concept of a MR and that the 24 hour stay was for a quick sleep and look-around. Eventually he was satisfied. I watched folks in the "Visa on Arrival" line breeze through - perhaps a better choice.

I arrived early for the return flight anticipating additional screening - but no problems on departure.

FYI - Dilmun lounge has a shower in the men's bathroom.
