I had an interesting experience with the US international telephone reservations. I gave them my six-segment itinerary I wanted to purchase.

Agent: Do you want me to price that?
Me: Um, yes, please.
Silence for about fifteen seconds
Agent: Um, there seems to be a mistake here
I'm getting a fare of $250. That seems extremely inexpensive.
Me: Yes, that is why I'm interested in that fare.
Agent: Why do you want this routing as opposed to the nonstop PHL-MCO?
Me: Um, perhaps because it is $250 r/t this way

She then seemed to realize what a good deal it was....and was extremely supportive in me getting the fare.

One question--why did US reset all H inventory to zero on the PHL-MCO flights instead of simply removing the fare? It seems the only reason they would reset the H inventory to zero would be if they knew what was happening. But clearly, the fare can still be purchased.
Seems odd to me, not that I mind at all!

Agreed. However, it is past midnight EST and the fare still appears to be there. From where does US base their time?

It's a fantastic deal. And it will probably be long gone by tomorrow. Act now!

I was afraid of that as well...but she did not seem to care at all that it was a mistake (and this was much earlier in the day)

Okay, you guys got me convinced ... I went ahead and booked SEA-PHL-FCO! I'll be leaving near the end of January - not sure if that's the best time to visit Rome but it's probably the most convenient time for me. Luckily I had been planning a similar trip all along so I didn't quite hesitate as much as I normally would; usually it'd take me weeks to decide to purchase.

Now just a silly questions for you all... how do I go about viewing what 'fare code' I have booked on Expedia? (I'm still very new to this).

Fare is also available to Pisa (PSA) now.

'Married segment' availabilty may well be affecting your ability to book this fare on US. Here is an example of point to point availability on JAN 23rd:

1 US 6 F9 P9 A9 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q9 SEAPHL 830A 423P 320 0
V9 K9 L9 W9 S9 T9 N0

1 US 2 C9 D9 Z9 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q9 PHLFCO 600P 825A#1 333 0 V9 S9 W9 T9 L9

And here is thru fare availability:

1 US 6 F9 P4 A4 Y9 B9 M9 Q9 V9 SEAPHL 830A 423P 8 320 0
S9 T9 W9 L9 H0
2 US 2 C9 D9 Z9 Y9 B9 M9 Q9 V9 PHLFCO 600P 825A#1 333 0
S9 T9 W9 L9 H0

Married segments are nasty - and border on dishonesty and 'bait and switch.'

Obviously, US does not want to sell you this fare. But they will sell you
a seat in H on either individual segment.

You may be able to beat them at their own game and get the fare by overniting in PHL... or by doing long, long layovers. This busts up married segs. (Check ITN for H COS on each segment). And rember the 24 hour rule!

Right on the money, tvl4free. I've grabbed what I could and will have to kill some time, like 12 hours, in PHL. But hey, it's all for a good cause, right.

BTW, is this the part of the thread where we all start giving our flight dates or trying to arrange an impromtu mini-FT do in FCO? Just checking...

I'm In

Pulled the trigger on this... arrive FCO on the 16th of January, leave on the 21st. With my UA 1P bonus, will net about ~30,000 UA miles.

Great to see so many people took advantage of the fare . I booked mine through ITN (thanks keithguy) and I am amazed that it was able to e-ticket such a complex itinerary, all without a single US-operated flight )

Does anyone know if UA does status matches? If I need to fly 12,000 miles on UA, might as well see if I can get some elite bonus for it. Anyone know if UA would match NWA status? Who should I contact?

Cool. Glad I asked.

Here's mine:

US 112 10 Mar SEA 2250 PHL 0637+1
US 2 11 Mar PHL 1800 FCO 0825+1

US 3 18 Mar FCO 1115 PHL 1520
US 115 18 Mar PHL 1900 SEA 2207

Will probably come back into FCO for the night of 17th Mar after spending most of the time in FLR, so anyone wants to have a pint on St. Patricks Day would be up to meeting any if interested.

BTW, nice point haul YYZC2. ^

Dang...for us NY/East Coasters...I can't make the #'s make sense...It would cost me easy $200-300 to get to SEA, not to mention the extra day...I know I am asking the impossible, but has anyone gotten this to work from the east coast, or at least some super cheap NYC-SEA? Otherwise just doing JFK-FCO would be better, especially knowing that US may be gone by March...
