Time for tailor on nested SIN run?

I'm doing my first true mileage run ever, a nested ORD-(SIN-JFK-SIN)-ORD, at Thanksgiving. I'd like to get a couple nice (Canali type, for example) suits made, but I only have two full days in Singapore -- a Saturday and Sunday. Any recommendations for a tailor which you have used, and been happy with?

p.s. Searching has only revealed two other nested SIN runs -- am I overdoing it (travel is in UA NC)?

Good luck finding a tailor that can give you quality in that turnaround. Check with the hotel for recommendations, though from my experience, you may have better luck at Macy's in NYC.

Oh my. Bring a good pillow. Or two, one for each...

Hi
I had two suits made last time i was there. Went in Friday @ 20.00 to choose material, was measured up at 00.00, went back at 20.00 on Saturday for the fitting and had the suits delivered to my hotel by 01.30 that night.
V good quality wool suits but they couldn't do anything fancy in that short a time frame i.e. real buttons on the cuffs. Total cost 280 (GBP)

I'd go back there for sure.

How well did you do fare wise for this run?

I've had a tailor measure, make, adjust, and then finish a suit for me in just under 2 days (10am on day 1 to 5pm on day 2).

Assuming you get a decent tailor who actually has staff instead of being an independent, 2 days should be sufficient.

Earlier this year I did ORD-(HKG-JFK-HKG)-ORD for about US$1700. As long as you're in NC, you're ok. If you were traveling in Y.....that's another story.

I can sleep on planes, especially the UA C seat. I'd bring some DVDs along, an iPod, and maybe some magazines. A laptop is good so you can catch up on emails to friends.

Int'l Biz is fun, IMHO. You can shower at the NRT RCC, take the train into Narita for sushi, I actually enjoy mileage running....provided it's in C!

Q fare for ORD-SIN-ORD was $802
M fare for SIN-JFK-SIN was $1080 (IIRC) -- bought in Singapore dollars.

Not terribly cheap, but worth it to make 1K (I put too many trips on LH M+M this year).

I ask because I've been fortunate enough to have only done trips to Asia in F (actually A or NF). So the thought of all that C makes me a bit concerned, mainly because I won't have my flat bed. I guess that's why they invented temazepam!

I will definitely be doing plenty of sushi -- my favorite. And I want to try the NRT RCC -- only done the Silver Kris so far.

I like your suggestions of DVD's. Will rent several.

I also came across Prince last year and let them make a few suits. When I waited for an already orderd Cashmere suit I found out that they offer even better material (they wanted to sell another one and I didn't like any material).

Anyway, I ordered another suit made from extremely good material which is actually one of my best liked suits until today. But although I like their material, their handcraft is about average. Even after hard negotiations prices are a bit high for their skills (good sales, simple manufacturing).

I tend to think there are better places to go. Be sure to find a place in which they don't offer just "one free fitting" but two to four. But sorry, I don't know a place of such high quality in SIN. However, before going to Orchard Towers (there are hundrets of tailors trying to squeeze you), try to ask locals for a serious tailor.

Good luck!

You're really going to be slumming it in C, let me tell ya!

UA's C is fine. The RCC can be a bit crowded, so if you want to shower take care of that right away. You may need to be on a waiting list, in which case you'll be given a pager-deal that will buzz when they have an opening for you. The most I've ever waited is probably 15-20 minutes.

I know, I know. I didn't mean to sound pompous -- I love NC in a 777 and 744 too, and just am imagining how I will feel after several days of flying in that (15A or 8H) seat may feel. But those DVD's are definitely going to make a difference.

Thank you for your advice on the showers -- will do on arrival.

Now I'm wondering if I have a little time for an additional nested run to CMB to set up an RTW. Back to the schedules....
