Not a bother! Wouldn't say I'm an expert, but thanks for the compliment!

The flight to NYC that I linked to is operated by United, so it won't earn anything, but there are a few dates in September and March that you can fly Cathay Pacific for the mid to high $800's or AA marketed and AA/BA operated for $956+ on many additional dates.

CX Fare - QS21SGAR (the base fare is $451)
AA Fare - QNN8NMN7 (the base fare is $414, which is lower than CX, but you'll connect in the UK so the taxes are higher)

Google Flights doesn't seem to be able to display the CX flights because it isn't able to deep link into the CX website or something. It displays the correct price until you pick the last flight, then on the final step Google wants you to book the tickets through AA, which is like $7k! ITA and Momondo display the correct price.

Back to the original question... The CX and AA flights book into the Q fare code which earns 25% mileage and elite-qualifying mileage with Alaska.

Looking at the route - SIN-HKG-BOS-JFK-BOS-HKG-SIN - you'll earn 4866 EQM and redeemable miles. Cost per EQM - 858*100/4866 = 17.6326 cents USD (quite high)

If we change to AA and look at this route - SIN-LHR-JFK-LHR-SIN - you'll earn 5103 EQM and redeemable miles. Cost per EQM - 956*100/5103 = 18.7341 cents USD (even higher)

Sorry about that. There was only a few seats available on the date that I linked to (a couple of seats in the Q fare code). I was able to bring it up on several OTA's in the last hour. Somebody probably bought them. Try a few dates in March.

If you book in a higher fare class you can find a better cost / mileage earn ratio, but the fares are higher and you'll need a travel agent to book since most OTA's and airline websites will show you the lowest fare.

A ticket booked with AA in the Q fare code (above) for $952 roundtrip will earn 5103 EQM at a cost of 18.7341 cents USD each.




Moving up a ticket booked in the N fare code will cost $999 earn 50% EQM or 10207 EQM at a cost of 9.7874 cents USD each




Next, a ticket booked in the V fare code for $1161 will earn 75% EQM or 15310 EQM at a cost per EQM of 7.5834 cents USD each.




Lastly, a ticket booked into the L fare code for $1302 will earn 100% EQM or 20414 EQM at a cost per EQM of 6.3780 cents USD each.




A CX premium economy ticket will earn 100% mileage and it's cheaper than an AA L fare, but doesn't cover as great a distance, so the cost per mile is actually higher (just a little). Alaska incorrectly states than a CX E fare is economy, it is premium economy, but it earns 100% mileage. You can buy a CX E fare for $1279 and you'll earn 19298 EQM at a cost per EQM of 6.6276 cents USD each. I do realize I'm posting a premium economy fare in an economy-only thread, but I wanted to point out that this was actually "more expensive" than the flight above which literally is more expensive.

There is some last minute availability on CX in premium economy to Toronto for $1185 roundtrip, which will earn 18774 EQM at a cost per EQM of 6.3120 cents USD each (just a bit better than the L fare above and premium economy instead of economy). Only caveat is most places want you to book a PE Flex ticket and won't show you this fare.
