Note that departing from ZWE / ZYR (Antwerp or Brussels train station) can even be a bit cheaper when forcing to go via AMS. It's high speed rail and only a short ride.

Besides the price, very true!
Did a ZWE-AMS-CPT run one time, which posted almost more miles for the ZWE bus ride from antwerp to schiphol AMS then AMS to CPT.
in out outbound we collected our bagage, got the train tickets to Antwerp ZWE and returned to our home in the netherlands without taking the train.

I always check the ZWE/ZYR routes before booking from AMS.

ZYR will tend to route you on AF via CDG.

Trying to book it as a multi-city helps. ZWE/ZYR-AMS and AMS-SFO on the same date. Same construction for the return flight sometime forces prices down with KL.

SecretFlying copied the deal and the KL fares seem to be gone. However, BA/AA is now matching the old fares with availability until the end of June.

Thanks, OP. Put a flight on hold when I saw this thread, decided to purchase today. BRU-PHL-SFO/SFO-LAX-LHR all on AA metal + LHR-BRU on BA. Time to use those SWU's!
