That's the point. It allows you to get 1 ticket for $400. Not everyone travels in pairs. @:-)

Strange.. If i search for 1 person, price is high and I see different routings via various EU cities. When I do two people, most of the availability is on UA to Zurich, then connection with Swiss, almost all the options are that route.

Price for 2 people is less than 1! haha. Crazy!

I'm seeing a couple options through United's website for $408 that include a stop at YYZ. You can do the EWR-YYZ segment on a UA plane (I don't think that leg on Air Canada earns any miles), then take AC to Milan.

While I'm not 100% sure on all the mileage rules, I believe that adds a segment or two to the trip, and a few extra miles.

I should clarify...that's $408 per person for 2 people. For just 1 person the rate is higher.

DL has been at 660 for months on this. I'll be surprised if they go down to 400.

I booked the emirates deal but saw that delta is in the 800s for one passenger and corresponding 5000 business fare that drops to 660 if you type in a search for two passengers and then 2500 pp business fare. Something is going on. I wish the United flight left a bit later. We had no issues seeing 408 pp round trip on UA, k fare, in March and April, nonstop from ewr.

Here's something I hadn't thought to ask before.

Could you pay for both and just fly solo? Or would that be tantamount to no showing the first leg and having the airline cancel the ticket entirely?

Of course you can. Each ticket is independent. If you really wanted to buy two seats you will likely succeed in getting an empty seat next to you...unless they assign someone to the seat after check-in closes (assuming you don't ever actually check the second person in).

EWR-YYZ on AC metal within North America would earn 25% EQM and 0 EQS, so definitely better to stick to UA metal if you can.

Nonstop UA option

Is anyone finding the nonstop flights still available? Have an $800 travel certificate that would be great to use here, but they won't work if intra-EU flights are on LX or LH. All the nonstop options are coming up at $700 or so.

Yep, still there. Just pulled up Feb 9-13 and it still priced out at $404 a person.

Remember, this is for 2 or more people...single tickets will cost more.

So far DL hasn't matched it and has held steady at 660.
