UA: EWR-MXP $404 RT Must buy 2 tickets

Looks like UA matched Emirates. Availability in most of February if you buy 2 or more tickets the price comes in at $404 per RT ticket.

Any way to make this work with 3 tickets?

So what happens if you ticket it, then split the reservation, then cancel one of the tickets.... :D

Considering 1 ticket was $900+, that's a good question :) You've even one-upped me, who was thinking "what if one were to buy two tickets in their name in order to save the $60-70 vs. buying 1?"

Wouldn't they just refund $400 you paid?

passengers count can be 2+ (up to 8)
EWR-MXP in May 1-7 $843.60 for 2
May is a nice to time to go

UA's availability on this is far more restrictive than EK. On Emirates, I believe it's essentially available every day during the period (plus $25 weekend surcharge) and you can stay for up to 4 months. On UA, if you extend past a week, the fare goes way up, and they favor Saturday departures for lowest fare availability.

Curious if buying two then cancelling one within 24 hours.

if you do this you can get RDMs for the extra seat, but not EQMs :(

not sure if you get an elite RDM bonus for the extra seat miles.

As strange as it may sound...

I wish DL would match.

My guess is that delta will match it. Business fares have already gone down to 2500 pp. economy at 661 now for both flights on a sample day, earlier one of the flights was at 719 or 771.
