Has anybody been to this place? Just saw a Groupon for it.

http://www.smokedonrosechicago.com/

Some of the reviews say near Texas quality brisket and excellent Greek broiled meats. Could be heaven (at least for me).

whoa, near where I live no less. I haven't been, intend to soon.

My hopes diminish a bit as I read Greek broiled meats (broiled meats can be excellent but it isn't BBQ). And to futher nitpick, their website talks about hickory smoked when TX BBQ joints use oak for the majority.

Well I saw they had Greek lamb and baby pig done on the spit. So I'm going for that.

I'll try the BBQ and see as well.

if cheltzel has some good feedback on the below, I'd sure be up for having a Flyertalk lunch or dinner there.

It was very good (both lamb and pig). But this place has been closed for several years. My guess is it never made it through the lock-downs.

Since this thread was randomly bumped after a decade, I thought I'd piggyback on it - anyone been to Twin Anchors in Old Town recently? Any good? I don't think I've ever been to that restaurant in my life, and since it's been there forever, I figure I probably should check that box.

yes, I found it very mediocre, boiled ribs slathered with sauce then placed in a broiler. Cool history but pass on the ribs, My $0.02

darn, thanks for the reply. Guess we'll have to figure out some other meat centric place to hit.

Thank you for the review! I guess I don't need to rush over there then.

Likely not. Another often raved about Chicago place for ribs is Gale Street Inn, 4914 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60630. Again, personally, not something one should go out of their way for but if in the area worthwhile, they do a really good pub style burger. There are folks that rave about their ribs and steaks, I've only had the ribs. Again, good if in the area.
