I have always liked Manny's. The corned beef is the genuine article, and a meat knish with gravy is an artery-clogging good time.

The Bagel in Skokie is OK in my book because you can get a tongue sandwich (my favorite). You aren't a real Jewish deli unless you serve tongue. Half sour pickles on the side, and I'm good to go.

It's between the AMC theatres and the Walgreens.

That Max & Bennys has closed permanently. It officially closed nearly two months ago.

I've had a couple of good sandwiches at:

JB's Deli
5501 N Clark St
( in Gordono's Pharmacy)

It is small but I liked the food better than Manny's and that place across from Treasure Island on Broadway.

Any thoughts on Perry's on Franklin? I like the cell free zone. He kicks you out if it rings or he sees you talking on it. Kind of like the soup nazi - no sandwich for you! Definitely not a place for Flyertalkers, who find cellphones almost as important as airplanes.

Aw, that's sad. That area could have really used a good relatively non chain restaurant. It seems like it just opened at the beginning of the year.

I take it the one that closed is NOT the one on Waukegan? (I'm not sure where you (the royal) are talking about?

Where do I get a good and fresh salt bagel around here? One can only survive so long on poppy seed.

Death to impostor bagel types such as "blueberry"

More annoying to me are "Wonder bread" bagels - that is, bagels that are nothing but a soft roll with a hole in the middle. It hard to get a proper bagel (i.e., boiled, then baked) anywhere around here anymore. You might try The Bagel, 3107 N. Broadway. Otherwise, you may have to schlep to Skokie!

I've been lucky enough to have friends bring me bagels from Montreal twice in the last few months! ^

No one mentioned Morry's?

Morry's Deli
5500 S Cornell Ave at South 55th Street
Chicago, IL 60637

Famous as spot where Meg Ryan had her famous scene in "When Harry Met Sally."

Famous in general among UofC alumni.

No, and it's about two blocks from where I now live. I'll have to give it a try.

The deli scene in "When Harry met Sally" was at Katz's in NYC, not Morry's.
