If I had stayed in and had a drink, I'd have paid at least $11.75. That's a little steep for a sandwich at a place where you stand in line to order. Granted the sandwiches are great, and you get an unmemorable small side, but the new $8.75 price has to qualify as a rip off when you can get virtually any sandwich and home-made chips next door at Beer Bistro for less (and even a $2 burger on Tuesdays) and get waited on and watch sports on HD on several screens. It's not like the $7.50 previous price was exactly a deal.

My at least once a week business is no ms.
sorry to hear about Jerry's price increase.

perhaps it is time to try the various pizza places you had wanted to try@:-)

My favorite corned beef take out in Chicago is
Romanian Kosher Sausage Company
(773) 761-4141
7200 N Clark St
Chicago, IL
not open on Saturday (of course)

Romanian also has what they call a Romanian pastrami made from a flat, VERY garlicky good.

The best Kosher Deli (not kosher style) is Kens Diner on W Dempster in Skokie and they use Romanian meats mostly so do ask before ordering, if they tell you what you ordered isnt Romanian then ask what they have that is and get something off of that list.

Stopped into Jerry's today. Got my usual - AndyZ to go - just the sandwich, no extras, no drink. The price, including tax, was $11.55! I was stunned. The cashier was apologetic when I asked for confirmation on the price. "Sorry, we're having another price adjustment." I think this place, good as it is, can now officially classified as a rip off!

Any in the far west 'burbs? I'm assuming not but I'd be happy to be surprised.

A good deli provides an exception to my "no meat" thing.

I do try to hit Manny's about every other time I make it to the big city.

Give this place Schmaltz in Naperville (Naper/Ogden) a try. Vigorously endorsed by my barber.

PS
Obama went to Manny's today. Per the article, he mentions he got corned beef. Several times.

Tell your barber he was right.
Recently the mother of a Jewish buddy of mine passed away, she lived in Naperville, at the condolence meal/gettogether after the funeral, Schmaltz deli products were served, pastrami, corned beef, ruggelah, chopped chicken liver. Great stuff, got the big thumbs up from the contingent of NYC Jews (tough deli crowd) who were dining like there was no tomorrow.

Well, it is Chicago. Aren't multiple votes the norm?

As a new resident of Chicago, I'll agree with what everyone is saying. Manny's is tops.

Whoever bumped this thread, thank you. I now have more delis to check out, and a reason to tell the Mrs that we're going to Skokie.
