Just to confirm something that's already been discussed, is there a full service counter(incl checkin and baggage collection) for United Airlines and American at Terminal 5? What about Delta?
I'm flying into ORD with a lot of luggage(10 month trip) and then to MSP. Its a split reservation so I can't use a baggage collection service even if United/American have one. Will have to checkin

If you're coming off an international arrival, there are full service recheck counters for American and United once you leave the Customs hall.

Placing a call to Delta, they do not staff the recheck counters, so if you're coming in on an international arrival, you'll need to claim your bags then head over on the ATS and checkin at Terminal 2.

Terminal Transfer at ORD from UA to AA?

First, apologies if this is in the wrong section but searching for the terms above did not yield the answer to my question...

I will be flying from the greater NYC area (HPN/LGA/JFK) to BMI for pretty much the rest of the year. Based on what I can tell, my best option is to fly into ORD and then take another flight to BMI with AA. Given that, what is the process for transferring between the domestic UA terminal to that of AA? I will not be checking bags. EWR is a possibility but it is the farthest of all airports from my home.

Your best bet is to just walk. It'll be about 10-15 minutes but you'll remain behind security. It's all connected.

Yeah I think walking is probably your best bet. You'll either be in T1 or T2 on UA and will need to go to T3 for AA.

All three are connected behind security and then there is a train if you want to go out of security.

Is there any passage post-security from T1 to T5? I can choose a connection allowing 90 minutes or two hours, but I can also connect in DEN for more money and a worse schedule if that saves me the headache of leaving the secure zone in ORD.

In regards to dropping connecting UA bags...

Is it better to drop connecting bags at T5 or T1/T2? Can UA be trusted to properly transfer bags from T5 to T1/T2 (that's pretty far)? Or is it better for passengers to hop on the train with their bags and drop them off in T1/T2.

T5 is completely on it's own, but if you're going out UA, LH, or ANA, they depart from T1.

If you are arriving on an international flight at T5, you should drop your bags at the recheck counter in T5. UA has a full check in counter in the T5 arrivals area. You will get your onward boarding pass there and all you will have to do is go to T1 or T2 and clear security.

I don't think the UA baggage handling at T5 is any more error-prone than at T1.

If you're coming off an Intl arrival, you'll be fine dropping bags at T5 for the T1 departure. Rechecked bags are sorted by zone, so UA has bag runners going throughout the day over to T1.

No there isn't, so you'll need to leave T1, take the train over to T5 and repass through security.

Depending on the time of day, the T5 checkpoint isn't bad.

I don't get it when I check in for my first segment?

If you have the boarding pass, just recheck your bags and you are good to go. If you don't, you will get it at the desk when you drop your bags.

Around 11am or noon. I'd be transferring UA to LX. It's stupid LX isn't with LH like it is at some other airports.

So you'll be timing it between both the KE and OZ departures and then 3:30 pm departures. TSA usually has 3 lanes for document checking then up to 7 lanes for screening. It moves quick.

ords Jun 12, 2013 5:59 pm

Here's progress on the new TSA checkpoint. Believe it or not, June 24th is the target date for opening.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/membe...5617-tsacp.jpg

Looking at the picture, you'll queue down a long hall then enter the area from left which will funnel to one of the 7 lanes for screening.

To the far right where the blue is, that's the temp wall they have up currently.

Notice the ceiling height too.

Hudson news open their huge store by M10/M11.

As for the APC program down by immigration, the soft opening is still on for July 1st. There's talk one side of the hall could be installed by Saturday and up and running for testing a lot sooner than planned.

* Personally, it's been eons since I've seen the level of cooperation between CBP (locally and in DC), City, Airlines and Vendors to get this program up and running within the amount of time since it was first proposed.
