Thanks, cheltzel and knoebelsPT. I called and arranged for a wheelchair to meet me (they said they can't arrange for carts by phone). All the suggestions have been very helpful. Now I can focus on keeping my sanity intact as I travel with this wonderful group of teenagers! :D

This is good. At least you can have the peace of mind now. As a side benefit, the wheelchair attendant will know the best way from one gate to another, so you need not plan on the Internet. Regarding your teenagers, as long as the first flight is not overly delayed, they will be able to sprint across the terminal. :) Good luck!

I'm arriving from DFW-ORD on UA connecting thru OZ in terminal 5.
Is there a way to stay airside and get into terminal 5 without having to clear security again?

No. You will have to take the ATS train from your arrival terminal (either 1 or 2) to T5 and go through security again.

Alright thanks.

In the other direction - how far of a trip is it to go from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5?

There is a very helpful sticky thread about ORD at the top of this board.

I've found the easiest way (from the Blue Line anyway) is to follow the signs to the Hilton, leave the building at the back and walk to the elevator which takes you up to the ATS platform.

Does that take you underground or do you cross at the arrivals level in the marked crosswalk?

I know I live in Chicago but I've taken the ATS exactly 1 time in my life :o

I've only tried this route from the Blue Line (which I think is between T1 and T2) but you just follow the signs to the Hilton which takes you to the meeting room level in the basement. Go up one floor and leave the building at the back. The T2 ATS stop (or the small building which houses the elevator) is right in front of you.

The Hilton is the curved building opposite T2 station on this map and the elevator to the ATS platform (marked on the map) is not more than 100 yards from the Hilton.

Last time I was going to T5 from the Blue Line I decided to follow the "official" route which took me to the departure level of T2 and I couldn't find another elevator to take me to the bridge across to the ATS platform. It would have been much quicker to walk through the Hilton.

I think the easiest way to get to ATS from Blue Line is to walk to T3 parking garage elevators and go up to Level 4, which is connected to the terminal and ATS via a bridge. You can do the same with T1 garage, but if your ultimate destination is T5, then T3 offers a shorter ATS trip.

UA Express --> UA Express Connection Time

Hey,

I have a United Express <---> United Express connection coming up at the end of September in ORD. The connection will be between 7PM and 8PM -- the ticket only gives me 43 minutes to connect. I will be checking bags, so I won't have much to carry. Ideally I'd like a little longer, but that really isn't an option as the only other flight leaves me with a 5hr layover.

It is the last flight of the day, so if I miss it I'll be stuck -- but I was just wondering if any of you have tried this...

Thanks!

Assuming your flt to ORD is on time then you'll be fine....though an on-time arrival has become a fairly big assumption with UA over the last several months.

Longtime lurker, decided to create an FT account to actually ask a question.

I have a Aer Lingus flight that departs ORD for DUB at 7:30pm on Nov 26 with my husband, his parents, and myself. We return from DUB at about 3:30pm on Dec 3.

If it was up to me I'd just carry on all our luggage instead of checking bags, but I think my mother-in-law will not be game for that. At the very least I might be able to convince them to carry on all the DSM<->ORD legs and then check our bags when we check in with Aer Lingus in ORD and DUB.

It looks like AA flies into Terminal 3. I'm looking at getting into ORD at 3:00pm on Nov 26 and leaving ORD on Dec 3 at 5:45pm.

How much time would you estimate we would need to run down to check in with Aer Lingus and run back up to Terminal 5? While my husband trusts me in navigating and is a fast mover, my in-laws will probably need more time than we would. They like to linger.... heh.

I know United has codeshare with Aer Lingus, however the only flight similar in price that is available leaves DSM on Nov 26 leaves at 6:00am. I don't want my in-laws to hate me with a 12 hour layover in ORD at the beginning of our trip.

I assume you can check your bags straight through to DUB in DSM - going to be way less hassle than standing in line at ORD.

Once you land in Chicago, you're going to need to exit security, take the escalator (or elevator) up to the upper level and then the bridge across to the ATS train and ride it one stop to T5. That whole process won't take you more than 15 minutes, more if you're moving slow. Once you're in T5, I haven't a clue what Aer Lingus' lines will look like to check-in.

I'd factor in whether or not you want to deal with the bags on and off the train versus just checking them in Des Moines.

No, I was under the impression that we couldn't because we'd be flying AA, so our bags wouldn't go straight from DSM to DUB.

What I'm really trying to determine is if we can save time and hassle flying into ORD versus driving 6+ hours to ORD parking, managing luggage, etc.
