From members.marriott.com:
NOTE: Members that reach 750 nights and 10 years at Platinum by December 31, 2018 will be grandfathered into Lifetime Platinum Premier Elite status (notified January 2019).
FAQ from members.marriott.com
Q: CAN I EARN LIFETIME STATUS UNDER THE LEGACY REQUIREMENTS (ACTIVE PRIOR TO AUGUST 2018) FOR LIFETIME ELITE STATUS IN MARRIOTT REWARDS, RITZ-CARLTON REWARDS OR SPG? IF SO, WHEN WILL I BE NOTIFIED OF MY LIFETIME ELITE STATUS?
A: Yes, in addition to earning based on the new criteria, members can earn Lifetime Elite Status under the legacy requirements through the end of 2018. If Lifetime status is achieved by legacy requirements, between August and December 31, 2018 you will receive notice of your updated Lifetime Elite status in January 2019. If Lifetime status is achieved based on the new criteria, you will be notified both in August 2018 as well as any time it is achieved through the end of the year.
Example: An SPG member has 300 Lifetime nights, 4 years of Gold Elite Status, and 1 year of Platinum Elite Status after August, 2018. Under the SPG legacy Lifetime requirements, this member would earn Lifetime Gold Elite status which would reflect in their account January 2019.
Q: IF I WILL NOT BE GRANDFATHERED INTO LIFETIME PLATINUM PREMIER ELITE, WILL I HAVE THE ABILITY TO EARN INTO THIS LEVEL IN 2018?
A: Yes, members can earn Lifetime Platinum Premier Elite in 2018 if they achieve 750 Lifetime nights and 10 years at Platinum Elite status. This requirement is only for 2018 and will not be continued in future years. Members will receive notice of this Lifetime achievement in January 2019.

I got a call from my ambassador on this today, saying that the reason why I'm showing as 9 years still (after combining my accounts where I had 9 years in SPG and 1yr in Marriott) is that if you made Plat in SPG AND Marriott in 2018 (prior to the merger) it only counts as one year towards your Lifetime status. She acknowledged that I was given contradictory information in writing a few months ago, based on which I racked up 150+ nights in Marriott just to be grandfathered into the Lifetime Platinum Premier. She said there's nothing they can do and they're sorry... I have an email from SPG confirming that I would get two years of Platinum counting towards my lifetime if qualified in both SPG and Marriott this year (qualified in both programs through nights). What do folks think of this, where do I take this? Can the Lurker maybe help?

I believe we would all agree that William has been very helpful during the transition to a single entity. Still, it is problematic when a company chooses to communicate significant details through social media instead of directly to customers. This is especially true when members of a company's loyalty program choose to communicate through bloggers and others who are not company representatives. The amount of care that should be taken in making sure that changes are communicated accurately to 110 MM (?) members isn't the same as a podcast or interview with a blogger. I believe that members will be able to earn annual status in both programs in 2018, as they have in prior years, but if there is any doubt. I glad that William is still around to assist.

You make it sounds like you still give any credence to all the garbage that is coming out of Marriott. What's next? You think you'll get a response from customer service this year? Please...

Would it be possible for you to get more information for all of us about the issue raised by honflyer of whether or not qualifying as Plat under both programs this year (whether before or after the August merger of the 2 programs) will count as two years of status for purposes of lifetime (in particular LTPP)?
As usual, there are endless MOLAs out there (though I can't totally blame them due to piss poor Marriott leadership over the past month).

And my account shows this as not being the case.

If I were crazy enough to want to go for this, being Lifetime Platinum now, but wanting to be Lifetime Platinum Premier, and for instance I were 120 nights short of 750 (fulfilling all other requirements) - under "old SPG rules", it would be possible to book three rooms for 40 nights, and get 120 nights credit.
At Marriott, it seems that while you can get points for three rooms, you only get night credit for one.
So - no chance at all if there aren't enough nights left in the year?

Roughly 100 nights left in the year + 10 nights for one meeting (if you haven't already done this on a date so that it posted after August 18th seems to be the FT interpretation of the new rules supported by data points) + 15 credit card nights (if you can claim them this year) = 125. Time to pull out a calendar and start counting possible nights carefully and maybe make a local hotel reservation for tonight right now.

I'm too far off and not based in the US. Would be better if they let you qualify under "legacy rules" until the end of the year. I might actually just book 3 rooms for almost two months... oh well, money saved, I guess .

Sorry if this is not the correct thread, but my searching skill is not great. I am currently a LTP with SPG and when I merge my accounts, I will be LTPP (760 nights).
My question is, since Your24 is only granted for 100 nighters, if I achieve 75 nights this year on SPG branded hotels, will I still get the Your24 benefit for 2019, even though I will not make it to Plat100+USD20K?

NO, Your24 is a benefit only available to those with Ambassador service, not PPs. However, you can still qualify for an Ambassador this year only with 100 Starwood (ONLY) legacy nights in 2018.

This is wrong. SPG rules always said no credit (nights or points, not even on the first days) for stays over 90 nights. MR never had such a rule and I don't see it in the new Starriott T&Cs.
ADDED: Sometimes people negotiate lower rates for long stays directly with the hotel (or there might be a corporate contract) and take as a condition that the stay receives no credit.
Note that in many jurisdictions, one ceases paying hotel type state and local taxes after 30 days.
