I requested a change to the promotion to better match my stays over the period and was told "I am unable to make any changes to this promotion after the end the promotional dates".

I've only had to change once in the past, a few years ago, but had read many FT'ers being able to switch offers.

Is this a new policy?

I believe you must change before the promotion begins.

I don't think I have ever changed mine before the promo began, but I have always made the request before it ended.

Given that a CSR before/during/after can't really "change" the promo you are offered, you might try the old "call back and ask someone else" routine. All a CSR will do is make a note in your profile that you requested a change. Then after the promo ends, they will go back and manually give you the points you would have received if you had been given the version you requested.

I Concur. Officially you are supposed to call/write in to change your Promo before the Promotion period is over. If you didn't, you certainly have nothing to loose by calling up after & begging & pleading...

I called a few days after the Megabonus Promo ended and got 5000 points for my 2 stays. I was initially signed up for the Stay 25 Nights, Get 50,000 points offer but since I only managed to stay 5 nights over 2 stays, I ended up with 5000 points. The points showed up in my account as "Goodwill" and not as Megabonus as it used to if I had met the original promo.

In the past I've called during the promo and was told they couldn't do anything until the promo was over and to follow up with them when it ended. I guess I should have made a "I'm going to call you after it's over" call during the period.

Lesson learned.

Use the FT mantra....

If at first you dont get the answer you like, call call again till you do.

Much to my dismay and embarassment, I missed my 2009 MegaBonus of 25 nights by ONE night. I earned 35k, but missed the additional 15k by that one night.

Does anyone have thoughts on whether MR would credit the points (or a portion of them) for being SOOO close?

I'm platinum and have been for at least 5 years in a row.....

You certainly have nothing to loose. I'd definitely make a phone call (or 2 or 3) to the Platinum Concierge line to try & plead your case...

As terockwo states, it doesn't hurt to ask, but I wouldn't be holding my breath on this one.
