Angry Ordered Marriott GC - Got Empty DHL Envelope

Has this happened to anyone here?

The DHL envelope showed no obvious sign of being tampered with so all I can guess is that the $1000 card never made it into the envelope

I tried to call Marriott right after I opened the package this morning but they weren't open yet. I then sent an email and have not yet received a reply.

One bright spot was that the Chase folks were very nice to deal with and took the $900 charge (this was a Marriott gc ordered via DL link) off immediately.

Never a dull moment

Except he already reversed the charge with Chase, so Marriott may be much less willing to ship him a new card. If the OP hadn't disputed the charge, I feel confident Marriott could have gotten him a new card (and cancelled the missing one).

You have 60 days to dispute a charge once you get a bill. So, I'd first call marriott - they are the only ones who can cancel the old GC and issue a new one - not chase. Even if chase does do something - it will take time.

Call marriott anyway. They need to know the GC is missing. Even if they say they do not replace missing GC's that's different than never have received one.

I agree. This is a tough one...I'd have probably tried to wait and talk to marriott before I called the CC company.

Keep us posted as to what Marriott/Chase does.

Did you at least get the little gift card holder with the amount written on it?

Don't we also have discussions regarding Marriott's refusal to cancel / refund / stop honoring these cards under any circumstances? I think you did the right thing notifying Chase.

Normally, I would have tried to speak with Marriott CS first but I was on the road and truly not able to break away to deal with the issue during their MT hours.

I explained to Chase that Marriott I tried to call Marriott but they were closed.

Chase then asked if I wanted the card replaced. I explained that I had planned to use the card the next day and figured that even had I reached someone who believed me (honestly, I'm not sure that I would had it not actually happened to me) and empowered at Marriott, there was little chance I could get a new card in time for this trip. The Chase rep agreed that i did the right thing by calling them in that case.

Aside from just being in shock that that such an unexpected thing happened, I just wanted it on record ASAP. After all, it's one thing to dispute the charge for an item not delivered but really how can you prove that a delivered envelope arrived empty

Right after I called Chase, I shot off an email to Marriott letting them know I contacted Chase and explaining that I really had no idea how to best address such an issue.

Nope, no little card holder or invoice or anything...just an empty envelope.

Okay after sending the email Wed AM, I finally heard from Marriott on Fri.

fwiw, the email came just after I checked out of the Marriott where I had planned to use the card

While I'm glad they responded - other than that I can't say that it inspires me to order a new card for my next trip.

Ms. bk3day,

We are not sure what happened to your package, but we could have sent out a new card if you want to dispute the charge that would be fine I will just cancel the card that was issued to you.

Thanks,

What would have inspried you? Looks like this is about the best they could do: Tell you that they would have canceled/reissued it if you hadn't disputed the card but since you did that is fine also.

I can't think of what else they could have done post dispute?
