Great!

Did you do it in ignorance of the promo? That is, were you aware of the promo when you ordered the travel package or did it just happen? Did anybody ask you for anything?

I'm sure it all works, but it just seems a little spooky to me.

Further update ...

"Thank you for your reply!

You are correct that I have not heard of this promotion yet and I apologize for your inconvenience. Thank you for faxing the information to me.

I have followed up on your question and discovered that this promotion will affect Travel Packages as well as regular transfers.

-- American Airlines will only post one bonus per member
-- Bonus miles post in 6-8 weeks

If you have further questions please feel free to contact us again!

Thank you for choosing Marriott.

Sincerely, "

So, it's officially a GO.^

Works with Travel Packages

I redeemed a travel package on 11/6, having no idea that the bonus promotion was going on. The transfer posted to my AA account as follows:

11/06/07 REWARD PTS TO MILES CONVERSION 0 120,000 120,000
11/06/07 10% BNS FOR PTS TO MI EXCHANGE 0 12,000 12,000

I had no clue what caused the extra 12K points to post, so I'm glad to know.. seems like I just squeaked in on the dates.

Excellent. I have been waiting on ordering a travel package for use next year just in case a bonus offer like this pops up. ^

Question for sbc94523 and jkm024:

Did you order the travel packages under the new rules? That is, did you have to have (or make) a reservation at the time you got the package?

Nice. I'm about to redeem two travel packages. Need to do 1 with WN to get a Companion Pass (actually have a bunch of domestic U.S. '08 travel planned for which WN is the only nonstop carrier on the route), and now I'll get an extra 12k AA on the second.

(I usually run my Marriott Travel Packages through AA...eventually I'll be Lifetime AA Plat and it'll be approx. 40% due to Marriott Travel Packages.)

Good question. I am also willing to trade points for travel packages but it's a hassle to make a fake hotel reservation and keep track of it.

One bonus per member means that I won't have the bonus on my second travel package, is that right?

I had an existing, 7-night points reservation and swapped that certificate out for the travel package certificate. That was my plan all along, so unfortunately I'm not sure whether or not they would've allowed me to proceed without making a reservation.

I redeemed a package today and the first question was my confirmation number .. so I do think you need a reservation for a package.

Received email notification on Nov 28, but promo already started Nov 15.
Will definitely take advantage of this, but have not figured exactly how. Probably just book a 7-night stay somewhere before the conversion.

If I make a fake hotel reservation to claim the package - cancel that reservation- then will I need tomake anotehre reservation to extend the hotel certificate?

Received miles and bonus today in AA. Of course they told me that the hotel cert would be electronic in my award reservation but at least online it says there is no award on my reservation. I'll have to clean that up sometime.

Can't clean it up; believe it or not that is the way it works now thanks to the Marriott software downgrade on October 1, 2007.
