AA miles conversion bonus
Apparently it rarely happens, but there's another AA bonus for converting MR points to AA miles.
Details here. Effective dates of the promo Nov 5 through Dec 15 (has this been posted before? I haven't seen anything). It's "only" 10%, but with a travel package, that's up to an additional 12,000 miles, which is not exactly chump change. :) Edit: deleted the link. I'll try to get a link that you can get to from the website, unless it turn's out the thing is targetted. |
I got an email about this offer today. I'm not sure why they did not send the email out earlier.
|
It says "To register, go to www.MarriottRewards.com, click"Use points" then "Air Mileage Rewards" to convert your miles today!", but it doesn't say anything about travel packages. Does this mean it will not work for travel packages?
|
That question (re: travel packages) always comes up and has so far been answered affitmative.
Just be sure, I've contacted Marriott and am awaiting their reply. I think I'll bite on this one if it's a go. |

Previous AA Promo - Feb 2005 20% Bonus Marriott Points -> American Miles Yes, definitely wait for a response from Marriott before cashing in a Hotel + Air Travel Package and counting on your extra 12,000 AA miles. |

Anyone know if this was targeted? |
While not a definitive answer, there is only one 120K mile "conversion" award that Marriott offers and that is the Travel Package award. (I mention this as 10% of 120K is 12K which is the max for bonus points.)

Still waiting for a reply from Marriott, but this is a little odd:
1. In the text they state this: "From November 5, 2007 – December 15, 2007, redeem your Marriott Rewards® points for American Airlines AAdvantage® miles and earn a 10% bonus for conversions!", which clearly seems to indicate they are encouraging you to take some of your MR points and convert them to AA miles. 2. In the T&C's, they say this: "To qualify to earn bonus miles under this promotion, you must be a Marriott Rewards member and choose to earn American Airlines AAdvantage miles in your Marriott Rewards member profile.", which seems to indicate that the promotion only applies to those who select miles instead of points for their earning preference. So, if you stay at a Farifield, for example, you get 1 mile/$ normally, and now you'd get 1.1 miles/$. Hardly exciting. |
I did not read the second part of the T&C that carefully, and if they enforce that part, this promotion has no value for me since I always take points.

The directions on the webpage you provided in the OP, detail steps to order a points-to-miles conversion award, not a way to change to receiving FF miles instead of points for a particular stay.
But I was quoting the T&C's from the email. In fact, I'm going to edit my post, because it leads you to a page with my account info on it. |
...and the answer is ... huh?
Got this reply:
"Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards regarding travel packages. When using your points to purchase a travel package, there are no additional miles or bonuses added. The airline bundles that are included are exact amounts. At this time I am not familiar with any upcoming promotions that would add bonus miles to a package. I hope this answers your question. If you have further questions please feel free to contact us again! Thank you for choosing Marriott. Sincerely, " But, of course, as hhoope01 points out, the promo page specifically mentions 12,000 miles, and the only way to get that is by cashing in for a travel package. It seems that the promo was poorly thought out (certainly poorly worded and contradictory in places) and that they haven't passed the info to the troops. Funny, because the start date was about three weeks ago. I would copy all the info I could get and then get on the phone with the minions at SLC before I actually did a package deal. |
