Trivia Question
Another current thread here is talking about the rather strange metamorphasis of the ONT FS Marriott.
Can any one name the FS Marriott (and actually a rather nice one) that was once a Super 8? I've stayed at the place when it was part of each chain.
Hint: Its a US location and has been a FS Marriott for about 6-8 years.
Perhaps there's even more than one location that would qualify as a correct answer, but I have one specific location in mind.

Don't everybody answer at once! 85 visits as I write this and no guesses.
I'll give three hints, and if nobody else gets it, I'll give the answer in a day or two.
1.) The hotel I'm thinking of is in the Midwest...and not the only FS Marriott in its city.
2.) Its a mid-rise building (9 stories as I recall)
3.) It also was once flagged as a Quality Inn (before it became a Super 8 and then a Marriott....in that order).

Okay....
We're now up to 138 views as I write this and no guesses.
The FS West Des Moines Marriott is the property in question.
When I first stayed at this property, in the early 90s, it was a rather shabby, but otherwise okay Quality Inn. Quality Inn Westmark to be exact. Pretty much in the middle of noplace. A few years later, the hotel was re-flagged as a Super 8. I can still remember the big "lightup" Super 8 logo on the side of the building. Little, if any improvement from its Quality Inn days, and perhaps the only Super 8 with a full service restaurant and (rather lame) nightclub on the premises.
Fast forward a few more years and its a FS Marriott. My first stay was in 2000 or 2001. One of the most incredible makeovers I've ever seen. Everything completely refurbished, improved, and completely up to Marriott standards. Top-notch restaurant. (I've taken customers to lunch there a couple of times). The lame nightclub is long gone, having been replaced by another of those boring (and even more lame) lobby bars that seem to have been in vogue for awhile. I'm not sure if its even still there.
But all in all, a great job done and a fine example of what a FS Marriott should be.

I stayed at this property when it was a Super 8-- it was branded Super 8 Hotel rather than Super 8 Motel. Super 8 actually has a number of nice properties throughout the midwest.
I had no idea this had been rebranded as a Marriott (I haven't been back to Des Moines since), but it doesn't surprise me. They must command much higher rates as a Marriott.
