Okay....
We're now up to 138 views as I write this and no guesses.
The FS West Des Moines Marriott is the property in question.
When I first stayed at this property, in the early 90s, it was a rather shabby, but otherwise okay Quality Inn. Quality Inn Westmark to be exact. Pretty much in the middle of noplace. A few years later, the hotel was re-flagged as a Super 8. I can still remember the big "lightup" Super 8 logo on the side of the building. Little, if any improvement from its Quality Inn days, and perhaps the only Super 8 with a full service restaurant and (rather lame) nightclub on the premises.
Fast forward a few more years and its a FS Marriott. My first stay was in 2000 or 2001. One of the most incredible makeovers I've ever seen. Everything completely refurbished, improved, and completely up to Marriott standards. Top-notch restaurant. (I've taken customers to lunch there a couple of times). The lame nightclub is long gone, having been replaced by another of those boring (and even more lame) lobby bars that seem to have been in vogue for awhile. I'm not sure if its even still there.
But all in all, a great job done and a fine example of what a FS Marriott should be.
