"Number of guests" changed
Hi everyone.
I have 3 rooms reserved at Courtyard Sheffield/Rotherham, UK for the night of 8 April. Each room I reserved was for 2 guests and my confirmation emails show this. They have also shown correctly on my reservations list until I checked yesterday and now they all show as 1 guest per room. As the rooms are booked as part of a dining package, I called the hotel directly to make sure they had the correct details. The clerk assured me that each of the rooms was on her system as being for 2 guests.
I'm not worried at all but can anyone shed any light as to why this is?
Thanks ^

I've always wondered why Marriott collects the # of guest and # of children info when I make reservations - I always blow by this when making reservations, even on the few times a year that the family comes along.
Since I'm paying by the room regardless of who's sleeping along with me, I've always felt this was an invasion of privacy. After all, Marriott goes to great lengths not notify you about property left behind, citing privacy concerns (see my thread about property left behind).
Outside of dining promotions (which seem to be limited to 2 people MAX anyway) or the risk of stuffing 10 people in one standard room, is there any other practical, operational insight why this collected?
If its Fire Marshall info or trying to gauge the strain on the infrastructure (hot water, maid service, restaurant usage), its pretty useless since its not uniformly collected, recorded and verified at check-in.

For some properties, Marriott will charge extra if you have more than 2 adult guests in one room (i.e. JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina). At that property, a room can have 2 adults and 2 children or 3 adults. They charge an extra $50/night if you have a third adult.

More guests in a room creates more work for the help. It also means that more amenities may also be used. Hence the higher rates with more guests in a room.

And what makes you think that you'll actually see that bottle of Shampoo in the bathroom even if you tell them in advance how many of people are staying with you?
Usually, its one bottle of everything per bathroom. And I've been to plenty of FS Marriott's where they won't even restock the basic 4 (Shampoo, Conditioner, Lotion and Mouthwash) if they see a partially used bottle still left. And I love the mouthwash once or twice per day.
I still don't get it. My experiences (and gut) don't lead me to believe its staffing, safety or incremental costs but just an other way to add revenue. Otherwise there would be more enforcement at check-in.
Anyone who goes through the discomfort of having more than 2 adults in a room AND PAYS extra for the privilege is a fool. An all inclusive meals included resort is one thing but an overcrowded plain vanilla hotel room is another.
I also think its a way of trying to convince you to take another room...
