Status Question
I finished the year with 54 nights (it wasn't a good year for me and Marriott). Seven of those nights were last January. I didn't start again until the first week in March.
My current Platinum status is good until February 2007. My understanding from Marriott Concierge and socrates is that re-qualification must be done during the calendar year, but a boost in status is done via a rolling calendar. So:
If I continue on, I will drop down to Gold in February. However, if I get sufficient nights in the rolling year March 2006-March 2007, I will be again at Platinum. So my tenure at Gold should be brief.
Do I have it correct?

No, as I understand the program, your night counter resets to 0 as of 1/1/07. In order to regain Platinum, you have to stay 75 nights in 2007.

Yes, barring some details. You will drop to Gold on 3/1/7. Then if, on the first 2 Saturdays of March (March 3 or 10, depending on which Saturday the rolling 12 month check is run), you have at least 75 nights on record in the previous 365 days then you will once again attain Platinum status.

Once the Platinum level has been achieved it must be renewed with 75 nights in the full calender year. Referring to the example, you would need to stay 75 nights in 2007 or your status would be Gold for 2008. Something to keep in mind, however, is that if you were downgraded to Gold in 2008 you would be eligible to achieve Platinum again on the rolling calender year, so the interruption in status could potentially be very brief.

There has always been a delay in it reseting the counter in years past. Nothing to worry about. My guess is they leave it that way to keep those who are looking for their 2006 nights for qualification from calling repeatedly. Smart move IMO. FWIW, your 2006 nights will get credited to 2006 (including any stay the night of Dec 31), and stays in 2007 will be posted to you 2007 night totals. I was at a Marriott over year end the last 3 years so I have a bit of personal experience.
