Smile Ritz-Marriott partnership

Staying at Grand Cayman Ritz next week with a small group (business group, but all fun). Have guaranteed oceanfront room. As Marriott plat elite, is there any point to requesting an upgrade for larger room, better location, etc based on Marriott status? Also, for our nights that are not master-billed, can I get Marriott point credit? Not sure what the Marriott-Ritz partnership means, and it seems to mean different things at different properties.

thanks!

My experience is that status is not recognized, points / elite status are not accrued.

Some of the same corporate codes are shared and you can use MR points for stays, but that's about it.

I think there was a post a long time ago about a conference that moved from a Marriott to a Ritz (I think in Florida), and they negotiated for earning MR points for stays.

As Tiojelly stated you won't be able to earn points and normally your Marriott elite status won't get you much at an RC. But it never hurts to ask them when you check in. You might get lucky and receive a nicer room or view. Just don't expect it and if it comes great.

I don't think it's a partnership. Isn't Ritz owned by Marriott?

Ritz is owned by Marriott but I think is "above" the points fray just as Four Seasons has no program. The worst room at the RC is better than anything at the Marriott so enjoy.

Typically, but not always. In my experience it depends on the particular Marriott and the particular Ritz.

always helps to call ahead and have an upgrade request put on your reservation file.

That's my experience also. I do find that the service tends to be better at the RC.
