My experience is that status is not recognized, points / elite status are not accrued.

Some of the same corporate codes are shared and you can use MR points for stays, but that's about it.

I think there was a post a long time ago about a conference that moved from a Marriott to a Ritz (I think in Florida), and they negotiated for earning MR points for stays.
