I have been hoarding miles and offers to get 135K points... but am 14K points short with less than a week to go. It's not tragic if I dont make it, but can you buy points? Any ideas on how to get another 14K points? I presume a friend cannot gift them over...

Yes they can be gifted over. You will need to call the CS line and ask them to send you a transfer form. They will send it to you in about 10 min and you need to fill it out and send it back. Should take about 1-2 days for the miles to post in my experience.

You can also buy 10% of the points required for a particular reward, and in some situations, with a supervisor's approval 20%. The cost is $10/1000 points.

Please provide a link to where this is documented. The reason I ask is that according to the T&C, found here, it says in number 3 under the section titled Conditions of Enrollment:

This "gifting" of points between friends is something I am not aware of and if it is available would be a really good thing. I have never liked the way we singles are discriminated against. We pay more taxes than everyone else, we pay property taxes so others' kids have good schools, and then we can't even transfer points between our accounts. What's next?

You could head to the nearest timeshare(maybe Boston, NJ, or Williamsburg?) and listen to the talk. I think it is still worth 15,000 points.

The easiest route is to purchase the 10%.
I purchased 10% before it was quite painless.
I'm not sure if its 10% of the award in your case 13.5k is available and you still need 500 points or is it 10% of what you have in that case its 12.1K points availbe for purchase.

Less than a week to go is tough. I don't think there's a guaranteed way to get the points to post to your account unless you buy them. And even so, it still might take a few days. It still should be significantly cheaper than paying for the hotel on your own.

I just called CS and asked and they sent me a form. Sorry I know you want documented proof and I do not have a T&C quote but this is just from my recent personal experience.

And that was a transfer/gift from someone other than a spouse, SO, or someone with the same last name as you?

I called the platinum customer service line several weeks ago, and the CSR told me that point transfers can be made to anyone as long as the other person is redeeming an award. This goes against the T&C, but it might be an example where corporate policy is not reflected in the T&C.

A somewhat analogous situation before was when Marriott CSR said that suites were not included in the room upgrade guarantee. This was Marriott's policy for some time before they wrote it in the T&C.

Well, if that is the case then this another one of those FT moments.

I have an award stay coming up that I'm short of points on. I know I can buy the points, but a fellow FTer has a gazillion of them & would be willing to transfer the shortfall to me. I will return the favor of gifting him the same amount for him in the future as I'll have the extra points then.

Can this be done? If so, it would save me purchasing them. I'm a bit confused by the above. It originally sounded like the person had to be a spouse or partner, but it also sounds like it was done for a friend.

Plus the last update on this thread was 18months ago, so not sure if it's changed since then.

Now that the e-certs have to be attached to award stay a week out I'm starting to get a bit nervous. Should have thought of it before, but it completely slipped my mind.

Award stay starts 2/15, and so the e-cert has to be attached by 2/8 so I need to get this sorted asap.

I was able to transfer points from my dad's and my brother's account to mine. I actually had the CSR fax me the form. I filled it out ( had my dad and brother standing next to me ) and faxed it right back to him while he was holding on the phone. I worked pretty well.

buying points definately works, although the price has gone up to like $15/1000. And they will let you buy up to 20% if you need them.

Haven't tried gifting yet - have to keep that in mind...
