Please provide a link to where this is documented. The reason I ask is that according to the T&C, found here, it says in number 3 under the section titled Conditions of Enrollment:

Accrued points and miles do not constitute property of the member. Points accrued by a Marriott Rewards member are for the member's benefit only and may not be transferred to anyone. Points are transferable to a legal spouse or partner only in the case of documented death of the member. Points are not transferable to another person for any other reason, including divorce or inheritance.
The only exception I am aware of to this explicit policy is found here which states transfer of points between spouses is allowed at time of award:

Immediately prior to redemption, a member may authorize the transfer of the necessary Marriott Rewards points into the spouse's Marriott Rewards account in order to qualify for a specific reward.
This "gifting" of points between friends is something I am not aware of and if it is available would be a really good thing. I have never liked the way we singles are discriminated against. We pay more taxes than everyone else, we pay property taxes so others' kids have good schools, and then we can't even transfer points between our accounts. What's next?

Note that at the link provided above is also information on purchasing points.
