Exactly. Clause #1 on the back of the old coupons clearly excluded CY, FI, SH, etc. They removed the clarification/restriction in these BB coupons.

and from what I remember when it wasnt good at CY,FI,SH etc it said it was good at Marriott,Renaisaance, and JW Marriott, never remember seeing 1 that said good Only @ Marriott

could be they dont want to let them be used at @ Edition or Autograph propertys but then say so

Exactly the gist of what I told Marriott last week. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Perhaps an OT question, but under what legal justification or jurisdiction would DL or Marriott have to prevent the sale of the certificate on eBay? (Or, generally, what local/state/federal laws would directly prevent eBay from allowing the auction?)

I know there are some items that eBay has voluntarily deemed too offensive to allow even if they aren't explicitly prohibited by law. But it doesn't seem like Marriott certs would fall into that category...

Stay away from Bonus Bucks and other certs traded on Ebay. I got burned a few years ago when I bought what looked like perfectly legitimage $100 boI only nus bucks off of Ebay. I only found out a few months later when I tried to use them and by then the seller was long gone. This is probably why Ebay bans their sale. It is also against the T&C's printed on most of them.

Oh, I know it's against the issuers' T&C's on pretty much ALL of them. But I'm not aware of any eBay T&C's being violated.

If protection of the buyer is eBay's reason for banning them, then they should ban a wide variety of things they don't. I remember when I held season baseball tickets, there was a policy that I wasn't supposed to resell them. If I did, and the buyers caused problems at the stadium, I could lose the rest of my tickets.

But I still sold them on eBay all the time. eBay was happy to facilitate the sale, even though I could have just as easily been selling counterfeit tickets as one could sell counterfeit Bonus Bucks.

Anyway, not a big deal...I occasionally bought Premium Pounds via eBay years ago but never saw the point of buying Bonus Bucks when people would bid the things up into the $80's or $90's.

I have a $100 BB coupon as well. I see that is it for full service properties.

I will not be able to use it, and it expires Jan '12.

Anyone know a good spot to sell these, I looked on ebay and there were none listed, I was shocked. I thought $25 might be fair.

We have 2 weeks of Timeshare, in FL and Hi, and these are no good for that.

I like how the Marriott credit card changed the "gift" effective 9-1-11 to a Free 1-4 free night cert from this $100 coupon. Doesn't help this year.

EDIT:SOLD (that was easy)

FYI for others (and to this poster). Selling on FT isn't allowed/violates FT TOS & could get you a warning or suspended.

If you (or others) are Coupon Connection-qualified, you can try to do trades there.

Also, selling on eBay is (from what I hear) a good way to get your account locked by Marriott!

Speaking only for myself, I'd probably do the CC route. Or (a novel thought) just give it to a family member or friend who could use it instead of me. Good karma & all that.

Cheers.

Bonus Bucks use to be easy to earn (lots of offers were out there) and easy to use. This is no longer true, too many variations with too many restrictions that vary from one BB to the next. The language of the T and C is sometimes ambiguous as well. All of this is a recipe for difficulties using them and therefore making one's customers less happy than they would have been without the BB.

I don't spend any extra time looking for these coupons anymore, and when I do get them I have relatively low expectations about my ability to use them.

Gift Cheques / Bonus Bucks Exclusions

I see language from the cheques rules indicating the following:

[...] 5. This Cheque Award is not valid toward any rate that requires ID or membership. Excludes advance purchase, catering, group, and associate rate and other contract rates. [...]

I'm assuming this means that the cheques are not redeemable under company negotiated rates (contract rates) or Marriott Elite offers (requiring membership for use).

My company policy allows me to use its negotiated rates for personal travel and i have some upcoming reservations on personal travel and using Marriott Elite offers. I'm assuming from the language above I'm out of luck to redeem the gift checques on those stays?

I see the same language on some Bonus Bucks certs I've picked up (100 BBs for 99/109 rate stays) - so I'm assuming the same deal with these?

These certs really aren't that great if I have to pay rack rate to use them, esp when my company rate matches the gov't rate when available in the US.

I used company rate and paid with them. MR said it was ok when I called them. Sometimes it works sometimes does not. Check with property ahead of time to save some trouble.

I'm using gift cheques very intensively for three years now and have not had one situation where these could not be used on checkout. I did not use them on corporate rates, however used them with AAA and M11 rates and also with EEO-Bogos when they still existed with no problem at all...

The language on those certs has not changed, btw, this exclusion was there since I started using them...

Greetings - Dirk

I tried using the gift cheques at the PHL airport Marriott on a AAA rate. The woman at check-in read through the exclusion list word for word and then told me that I couldn't use it on that rate. She said I'd have to pay based on the current standard room rate, which was about 20% higher, adding "that's the way they getcha with these."
