(SS = Savvy Savings. It's basically a Bonus Bucks flavor issued by Renaissance.)

And, they can only be used at Renaissance hotels.

That Google FT search engine is great!

Moreover, the above post of his was taken from one of the earlier DL FT meets.

Furthermore, our old pal Socrates appears to have been a founding member of that group.

Therefore, I find it very hard to credit the OP -- given his long time familairity with frequency programs in general, and the fairly recent use of a BB in particular -- he should not have been blindsided by this restriction.

He certainly could have been blindsided -- however, as others above have noted, that was his failing, not Marriott's. :td:

But, I do agree up to a point. If the OP was a newbie, and the e-mail did not provide any T & C's, then it was incomplete, at best, and a firm like Marriott should not be sending out such bare-bones announcements without any qualifiers.

Whether it was indeed like that, however, is another matter.

I would not have fallen for that announcement, but then again, as an attorney, I do not feel comfortable unless I am positive that I have read through the entire deal -- bare bones announcents -- without more -- are not to my taste, and I am loathe to set out on those alone -- unless I think that I stand a very good chance of succeeding on the very sort of argument that the OP attempts to raise. ;)

Argh. I'm just annoyed that I'm going to end up spending more for my one night stay followed by a two night stay than I would for two two night stays. I need to stay Thursday night and then Monday/Tuesday night. If I was also staying the Friday, I could get the Bonus Back rate (which is cheaper per night than the best I can do for 1 night) and get the 100 Pound certificate. This reminds me of the days where air tickets without Saturday night stays were a fortune.

I am assuming that I couldn't just pay for two nights even if I only use one night?

Honestly, you could probably get away with it. Just make sure you don't leave until after housekeeping has come through and seen your luggage in the room. Would be no different than if you didn't bother checking out the next day - which I've done a million times or two...

Clearly, the OP is not a newcomer when it comes to the use of Marriott Bonus Bucks, and as Pinniped notes above, the bonus bucks certificate certainly has not changed in a year and a half. :td::td:

Yikes, I totally forgot about Alabama football on my drive back from MSY after Katrina. I went to the CY in Tuscaloosa and was laughed out of the lobby when I asked for a room on a Saturday night after the gamef. I was going stay in BHM, but decided to just drive the 2 3/4 hours home from there.

Marriott BB's at IHG's IC's?

Traveller Aug 11, 2007 8:23 am

You guys are pretty direct. I have used a $100 Marriott BB for a 0ne night stay in Boca before. I am not a newbie to this stuff and did read the entire email to see the T&C. There were few. I don't believe I, as a customer, should have to Google the entire Marritt web site (and individual Marriott hotel web sites to see what their BB policies are). I have cancelled my night in the Marriott IAH Hotel for this coming Saturday since it was dirty, smelly, damp and 1930ish anyway (and vI can't use the $100 BB). And god forbid any of you you mistakenly type Intercontinental instead of the Ren. And here is my :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: :rolleyes:for all of you since I won't have time to reply today. Good day to you all, and I hope you all never need help.

Can someone PLEASE tell me where in the below quoted entire email I received does it mention 2 nights, FS Marriott, JW Marriott or Ren? If it had invisible ink, I profoundly apologize:

Yep, and I had a $100 BB and was able to use it on a one night stay. I guess Marriott didn't inform me that it's only good on a 2 day stay now.

None of the links in the email point to a rule stating 2 day stay. Very Misleading on Marriott's part.

Does anyone want the $100 BB coupon before I shread it?

From the Marriott IAH Airport hotel page..."Weekend Escape" promotion...

Package includes $100 Bonus Bucks coupon redeemable towards a future two-night consecutive paid night stay at any Marriott Hotel and Resort or JW Marriott Hotel and Resort worldwide.
http://www.marriott.com/hotels/speci...rshaCode=iahap

Heck, it was on the main page for the Weekend Escape promo - right in the middle of the page. I was half-expecting it to be under a T&C link at the bottom... And if anything, Marriott's published rules are likely stricter than the actual certificate you'd get: all of the Bonus Bucks I've received at a Marriott Resort or Hotel have also been valid at Renaissance. (The reverse isn't always true - if a Ren gives you a Savvy Savings, it's likely only valid at other Rens.)

The only thing I do wish they'd be very clear about upfront is that PP / BB require you to pay a qualifying rate that is usually (but not always) higher than the lowest-available rate. Marriott's definition of "publicly available" is a little squirrelly in that pretty much anybody can join an auto club, and that rate is not valid. (Granted, the certificate itself recently clarified this by stating explicitly that auto club rates don't count.)

Don't trash your BB - I'm sure any number of FT'ers can use it...

NJUPINTHEAIR Aug 11, 2007 9:56 am

You still should have read the terms and conditions for its future use after making a booking. The web page after making the booking or your e-mail that you received for the booking had the Terms and Conditions for the future use of the bonus buck, not the E-mail reminder of your upcoming stay, as that only asks if you have any special requests.

Refer to your e-mail confirmation of your booking as it likely would have said the terms and conditions for the rate that you booked.

No, both you, and the hotel desk clerk, made an error.

The hotel for accepting it after a one night stay, and you for not reading the terms and condtions of the Bonus Buck which had to have clearly stated on the face of the certificate, that you were required to make a 2 night stay for it to be applied to your bill. After all, you used this cert only 1 1/2 years ago, and the certs applicable to 1 night stays were long gone by then.
