Is Platinum Level worth it?
I have been a Marriott Member for 6-7 years.
3 years at Silver
2 years at Gold
Last year I hit Platinum
I am not sure I see the value in going past Gold.
Yes, I get 30% uplift in bonus points.
I am wondering if I should stop at 50 nights this year and metal in another hotel chain.
Has anyone considered this idea? Any thoughts or experiences here?
Am I missing something, can I be better using my status to get more?
Regards,
Fritz

There are other threads on this subject, but I'll just say that having been Silver, Gold, and Platinum, the 48 hour room guarantee is the best benefit. There have been many times I've found out on Friday that I have to be in New York on Monday and the ability to get into otherwise sold out hotels downtown has been a great benefit.

I'm platinum and in my opionion these 3 benefits are definitely worth it:
-48 hour reservation guarantee = invaluable
-Platinum Arrival Gift at full service marriotts
- 30% (vs 25%) bonus MR points are very nice

I think those are all great benefits. I am a few nights away from Plat, and mostly hoping that it will provide me with a few room upgrades. The 48 hour guar. is nice, but my budget rarely allows for me to pay rack rates at Marriotts, which I think is all the 48 hour deal does when they give you a room.

Im Lifetime Platinum so obviously I agree with the need to go for the gusto.
But I have to say when I was striving for annual Platinum, the 48-hour guarantee was the biggest hook. I cant tell you how many times I booked a Marriott at the last minute as Platinum when everybody else was relegated to another hotel. And I didnt always get stuck with the rack rate by booking with the guarantee. It varied from property to property. Many times Id get a low rate.
The Platinum gift is fine and gratefully accepted but that wasnt my main reason for attaining Platinum.

I also don't always get stuck with the rack rate. But then again I say at the same hotels for extended periods of time.

One question I have is regarding the EEO's that go to Elites. Do all the tiers get the same offers? I don't think so, but I've only been Silver (for about three months) and then Platinum (made status via challenge).
As Silver, I never received any EEOs.
As Platinum the EEOs I've received have saved me hundreds of dollars. That's a definite plus for Platinum, but I'm not clear if Gold gets the same EEOs.
Honestly, if Gold does gets the same / very similar EEO's, I can't see why I'd go with Platinum over Gold. Just my opinion, of course. Marriott happens to be very close to the offices of my co's HQ, so it's not as if I've got a lot of choice in the matter.

IIRC, the offers are the same for Gold and Plat members.
