I’m Lifetime Platinum so obviously I agree with the need to go for the gusto.
But I have to say when I was striving for annual Platinum, the 48-hour guarantee was the biggest hook. I can’t tell you how many times I booked a Marriott at the last minute as Platinum when everybody else was relegated to another hotel. And I didn’t always get stuck with the rack rate by booking with the guarantee. It varied from property to property. Many times I’d get a low rate.
The Platinum gift is fine and gratefully accepted but that wasn’t my main reason for attaining Platinum.
