So basically this particular property dropped waffles from its offering or they were out of batter or the griddle didn't work, since other SHS still provide waffles.

Cheers.

Marriott should sell those griddles. They're much more fun to use than the ones we have at home.

Yeah, I know Amazon probably sells this kind of griddle, but hey...if people are willing to buy mattresses from Starwood, why not griddles from Marriott?

I have one which was purchased when the item was on close-out at a restaurant supply store. It was the floor model. Even at a steep discount it was close to $200. My nieces and nephews loved it back in the day. It was borrowed for every sleepover party. My mother yelled at me that I would never use it and it was a waste of money, but after at least eleven years (she has been deceased at least that long) it is still a favorite purchase.

If you are in Atlanta, it was from Atlanta Fixture, which is just before the theater on the I-85 Access Road north of Shallowford. They are open to the public on weekdays and have great durable everything at low prices.

I was at the SHS near Houston airport for StarMegaDo 2 (quick overnight stay) & I noticed they had a griddle that would make waffles in the shape of the state of Texas. I thought that was pretty cool. Evidently you can buy one at Amazon.

I don't think that's correct. What I understand is that (a) there's no more newspaper delivery (to your room), and (b) some brands may not longer be required to provide a newspaper (as part of the brand standard).

But it's not like newspapers (especially the essentially-free in many places USA Today) vanished from every property within certain brands.

I didn't mean to imply it was, since the actual newspaper delivery thread mentions some properties that still offer a newspaper. However, the change where they're not required to deliver or potentially even stock mentions different brands. I try to avoid absolutes.

Cheers.

The newish FFI in Lancaster (across from Dutch Wonderland) has the waffle maker make waffles in the shape of the Amish horse and buggy...

I've stayed in a variety of Marriott brands this year and I almost never see newspapers anymore. There was a point in time when a WSJ or USAT outside your door was a standard at full-service Marriotts. At SHS it was more likely to be a big stack of USAT in the lobby, although maybe some of them had WSJ.

Granted, I don't particularly care. I know if I badly want one, I can probably find one in the lounge or lobby. But if it's not a systemwide and multi-brand cutback, it's *close* to one. I literally can't remember the last time I opened my door and saw a newspaper sitting there. This even includes a couple New York and DC stays, cities where physical-newspaper-reading is still at least kind of part of the culture.

I kind of assumed that the hotel chains got the papers for free or at a deep discount to pad the circulation stats of the paper, but I have no idea if this was really true.

I wonder what they will do with all those that have the Marriott logo?

The ending of delivery to your room is official and there's a whole recent thread about it:

I dislike the newspaper delivery, annoyed at IHG hotels to find it there. Waffles seem popular, though I'm not a huge fan of them.

The kids really like to make drippy messes out of them, you mean...which is probably why they're going away from many lower end hotels.

Not to mention the safety factor. Where else can your unattended six-year-old stick their fingers directly on a 350-degree griddle?

Although kids may be in attendance, the majority of guests are adults (I know, debatable) and I hope they don't go for the least common denominator in setting up breakfast. We'll end up with just cold cereal and fruit. POh, and no knives or forks.

I still believe the parents must take some responsibility for their children and seeing a dangerous situation, keep them away! I know it doesn't happen that way, but still should.

I stayed at both a SHS and a CY this week. The SHS still had USA todays, although only abut a half dozen, in the lobby. The CY had a sign up saying: due to the use of electronic devices, we no longer have newspapers. Please see the front desk for directions to the nearest location that sells newspapers.

I had stayed at that CY earlier last month and that sign was NOT there before.
