Cutbacks at Springhill Suites?
I'm currently staying at the Springhill Suites Tampa Brandon and it is my first SHS since a few years. I'm not impressed currently by this propery and what I consider several cutbacks since my last SHS stay.
- No more newspapers
- No more waffles during breakfast
Are these changes brandwide or is it just this property?

Newspapers is a recently (unannounced) Corporate-wide cutback.
No Waffles could be a local property thing (ask) or brand thing, I really don't recall them at a SHS I was forced to stay at years ago. I've seen hotels run out of simple things like yogurt and there seems to be no urgency or concern to replace during my stay.

Maybe the waffle iron is broken. Did you ask?

IIRC, no waffles was about five years ago. Properties could keep waffles, but there was no longer any requirement.
Haven't been to that property in years but it actually used to be a good SHS. Sorry to hear that it's gone downhill.

I stay at the SHS in Green Bay several times a month. Full disclosure: this is the only non full service property i regularly stay since full service properties are available in all of my other cities.
I really like this property. Its relatively new, nice rooms, a great gym(for a hotel), great sports bar literally next door, and the breakfast is really varied and good. I tend to stay away from carbs, so I am not sure about the waffles. However they really do have a nice spread.

Waffles are hit or miss at FI and SHS. Some have a waffle iron, some don't.

Were waffle irons ever a brand standard? I always thought they were a nice perk where Marriott has them, but not required by corporate.

Odd, given that waffles are about THE cheapest thing people can fill up on at breakfast... My kids always like making them at hotels. I guess springing for the waffle maker was too much?

The waffle maker reminds me of those in TX! The shape is a map of TX.

A memories of the last time I stayed at a SHS with my mother, who upon seeing the waffle maker, jokingly said, "Where's the pancake machine like at the Holiday Inn Express?"

We had stays at SHS in Portland and Napa the last couple of weeks and both had waffles for breakfast. The kids really like them.

I've stayed at a few SHS and generally USA Today is in the lobby (no WSJ) and I've never seen a Waffle Iron at any SHS before. However, I seen them at all RI's I've been to.

Pretty sure I've seen waffle makers at about 50% of the SHS's I stay at.
