Fall 2017 MegaBonus Terms and Conditions

*A 'stay' is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity. [Although the T&Cs don't say it clearly, a stay can be as short as one night.]

• Registration is required.
• Marriott Rewards members who register for this promotion by November 30, 2017 will earn one (1) free night award at a category 1-5 hotel (value of standard free night award ranges from 7,500 points for Category 1 hotels to 25,000 points for Category 5 hotels) after two paid stays* made between September 12, 2017 and January 15, 2018, at participating Marriott® properties.
• If a member completes two qualifying stays during the promotional period, an additional offer may be unlocked and become available in the members account within 2-3 days after the second qualifying stay.
• The member may not receive additional notification except through their online member account and must register for the additional offer within two (2) weeks from the date the additional offer becomes available.
• Maximum one (1) free night award earned with this promotion per member to be redeemed for a future stay at participating Marriott Rewards category 1-5 properties.
• Free night award will expire six (6) months after the date of issuance.
• An earned free night award is good for one (1) single or double occupancy standard room only and includes the cost of the hotel room and applicable room taxes only.
• An earned free night award will be added to the member’s account within 3-5 business days after the second qualifying stay.
• The awarded free night certificate is not transferable and may not be given as a gift.
• Nights spent while redeeming an award are not eligible for credit and Marriott Vacation Club® owner-occupied weeks are not eligible for credit.
• Stays at ExecuStay and Marriott Executive Apartments are not eligible for credit toward this promotion.
• Only one room per hotel is counted toward a member’s nights or stay.
• Members electing to earn miles are not eligible for this promotion.
• For a list of current Marriott Rewards participating brands, visit https://www.marriott.com/marriott-re...earn/hotels.mi.
• Stays at our exclusive luxury hotel partner, The Ritz-Carlton®, will count toward achievement.
• Rooms booked through most third party online retailers and select travel agency bookings are ineligible to earn for this promotion.
• All Marriott Rewards program terms and conditions apply.
• See https://www.marriott.com/rewards/terms/earning.mi for more information.

Last time it was a Cat 1-5 certificate I was able to use at the Marquis Bangkok where I was upgraded to an M Suite, so I'll happily take another of those.

Though overall I suspect Hilton will win the promo generosity competition yet again with another double points promo.

I have a 3 day stay in October, reserved/paid for by my company on a large group rate ( conference ). I'm sure it was done through a third party.

I'm pretty sure I won't get my Gold benefits for this stay, but can I add my rewards number so that it counts towards this promo and overall number of stays?

Would I get the reward points for the stay?

No - third-party bookings are not eligible for point or night accrual, which means you would also not earn toward MegaBonus. The best you can do is have your reward number added to get elite benefits during the stay.

Probably a YMMV situation.

I attend a conference at rotating Marriott properties every year - Booked under a reduced conference rate / group booking for staff.

I have always received elite recognition, points, and elite credits for the stays.

Very well might depend on terms agreed to for the overall conference package.

Thanks for re-posting the previous versions.

Since the email uses the term "Stay", I guess the first tier is not night based.

In my experience, most conferences book into eligible rates, but the OP does not appear to be talking about a conference.

What the Marriott T&C say is that if the room is centrally billed, there's no earn; if the member pays (and it's not booked through an ineligible channel, such as an OTA) it earns.

OP indicated "Conference" in his post.

Interesting. In practice, seems to be some variability.

Anyway, probably drifting too far off topic. Looking forward to seeing the details behind this Megabonus com out...

I agree that Hilton's promos are far more generous. But the MAR stock trend is suggests that a more generous promo is not warranted.

Hilton seems to have far better promos as of late, and I still can't get on board to switching back.

Marriott gets 5x the number of nights from me, despite the lesser accrual. Better properties most places I go.

I am attending conferences at Marriott hotels next week and in mid-September. Both have negotiated rates, which implies the possibility of no points earning, but both also require me to use my own credit card for all charges, which implies that I will earn points. I'll update the forum if/when points post.

In the meantime, I haven't gotten any promo offer yet. I checked my account just now, and it states "No new promotions."

Not able to register until Sept. 7, so not unusual for "No new promotions". They have only sent out a "tease" email so far.

It sound like maybe a combination of promos from the past. The "stay twice" may be more similar to 2016, but "unlock even more" sounds like B and C from early this year:
Promotion A
Earn double (2x) points on their first three (3) paid stays* made between January 16, 2017 and April 15, 2017

Promotion B
Earn double (2x) points on their first three (3) paid stays* made between January 16, 2017 and April 15, 2017
At the conclusion of three paid stays, the member will earn 15,000 bonus points after 10 paid nights plus an additional 1,500 bonus points for every additional paid night up to 15,000 bonus points. Maximum of 30,000 bonus points.

Promotion C
Earn double (2x) points on their first three (3) paid stays* made between January 16, 2017 and April 15, 2017
At the conclusion of three paid stays, the member will earn 30,000 bonus points after 20 paid nights plus an additional 1,500 bonus points for every additional paid night up to 15,000 bonus points. Maximum of 45,000 bonus points.
If you need more details, see this thread:

Much better than this past one of 2,000 points for the same 2 stays.
I agree 100%. 2000 / stay? Why reward members for switching hotels? It is cheaper for the hotel property to have longer stays.

The current promo cannot be winning over business being so complex. The promo not starting until the second stay is silly enough, but having a concurrent brand bonus that doesn't start until the second brand is ridiculous. Do the suits at Marriott really expect their average members, not FTers, to bother to figure this out?
