Not Real Plat
So for the fourth year running I have failed to get to 75 nights, but Marriott keeps me at Platinum. Admittedly, I have 785 lifetime nights so that may have something to do with it, but I am only at 1.4M points because I am a cheap ....
I wondered whether others were having this same experience? I obviously can't complain, but really wonder if I am special.
I hope I am special...I need the validation.

You are special in so many ways, but this is not one of them. Marriott often rounds up and gives members Plat renewal for many reasons. Remember, MR is a marketing tool. Marriott can identify customers who may not have stayed 75 nights in the past year but are still worth extending Plat because of likely business over the next year. Before making LTP, I was short one year and was renewed anyway.
But, again, do not let this make you think that you are not special. You are good enough, you are smart enough and dog-gone it, people like you.

Thank you, I needed this today. When I logged into my Marriott account, it said "Fake Platinum" and I was so upset I cried. But I feel better now.

Sorry for being a grandpa on this, but I think I've got all the terms the kids use nowadays straight. Don't you mean "Alternate Plats" much like "Alternate Facts?" Wouldn't "Alternative Plats" have large piercings, multiple tats and orange hair? Or be members of the LGBTQ, emo or Goth community?

Good one! I am offended by all the misuses of Plat and don't want to be mislabeled as such. I was once a 15 year BIB Plat but now resting on my LTP laurels being retired from travel. Q Plat or Plat Emeritus for me, please.

Okay, hold up. With the whole merger and matched status, does that mean you could be a Real MR Plat, but a Fake/Alternative SPG Plat?

According to one poster, we Marriott Plats are all Fake Plats. The poster pops up on threads with posts about how SPG Plats are better, smarter, faster, more sophisticated, importanter, richer, holier, and more pure than the unwashed masses that are Marriott Plats. The poster seems to think that after the merger, SPG Plats will be a different, higher level than us Marriott hicks who will be relegated to a subservient recognition.
