According to one poster, we Marriott Plats are all Fake Plats. The poster pops up on threads with posts about how SPG Plats are better, smarter, faster, more sophisticated, importanter, richer, holier, and more pure than the unwashed masses that are Marriott Plats. The poster seems to think that after the merger, SPG Plats will be a different, higher level than us Marriott hicks who will be relegated to a subservient recognition.

So for the fourth year running I have failed to get to 75 nights, but Marriott keeps me at Platinum. Admittedly, I have 785 lifetime nights so that may have something to do with it, but I am only at 1.4M points because I am a cheap ....
I wondered whether others were having this same experience? I obviously can't complain, but really wonder if I am special.
I hope I am special...I need the validation.

I had to do it... I looked over at the SPG forum and found the quote. Here's the thing: the poster on that thread was seemingly making fun of other SPG posters, not Marriott members, which left me with mixed emotions. As much as I wanted to be snarky back to the snark, I couldn't. The snark was not directed at us.
The thread where this comes from was started by an OP who was upset to have seen nudity in the spa area of a hotel in Europe. The OP was more upset that neither the hotel nor SPG corporate seemed to care about Europeans in Europe doing what Europeans often do. The thread was closed after most other posters turned on the OP. Someone posted:
It would appear the elitism we've seen from some SPG members who post over here is not universal over there.

Surprised no one has yet to blame this on an influx of Marriott "kettles"

Oh great, another member of the Alt-Plat spewing their anti-BIB agenda.

Ah, good find! Of course the sentiment wouldn't be universal - but apparently prevalent enough for the snarky comment to make any sense in the first place. Or just oft-expressed enough by one or two loudmouths...

I had 74 nights in 2016....and they kept me at Gold.
I think it was 5 award stays, 38 paid, and 31 credit card nights in 2016. I started 2017 with 24 rollover nights.
In December I assumed they'd gift me Platinum. Might have redeemed an award night to take me over the top but everything I read said it would be gifted.
The point bonus as a Platinum is useful as we do actually use the Marriot points between visiting relatives in NYC and daughter at college.
Will see what 2017 brings....Mike

Have you called and asked? Did you get your birthday bonus night? If not, you could call, ask for it retroactively and see if they bump you up to Plat. Also, check that you got credit for all your nights last year. It's not unheard of to not get credit for a random night, especially of you had two different billings over consecutive nights at the same hotel. (example: Night one on points, night two billed to your cc.)

I'm Lifetime Platinum in both, and I must admit that I look down my nose at myself quite often. Mostly in the men's room.

Thank you for the laughs and to the laughs from the other posts after this one!!
