I just tried to register via one of those links upthread, and can see no result in the "My Promotions" box on my MR account. So I wonder if the account registration works if you did not get the link directly from Marriott?

And btw, don't believe the drop-down box. For me, the first day it said "currently registered" existed, but since then it says "currently registered: none" but if actually go the Promotions page (and wait for it completely draw) it actually does show my (feeble so far) progress in the Fall 2016 Megabonus.
It's astounding how many separate IT glitches there are with this promotion.

I registered directly fat the Marriott site, and still it took at a day or two to show up under My Promotions. So you simply have to wait, I would think.

Pretty weak to say the least. I took 5k after 2 stay because I only have 1 stay/5 nights planned.

"retroactive" meaning
will a stay that started before the megabonus period but continues after you have registered and the megabonus period has commenced earn nights toward the 50k bonus for those nights after 9/15/16?

In the past MegaBoni they would have count even if you registered after the 15th. This one, however, appears to have verbiage in the T&C that says only nights after registration will count. So, as long as you registered by the 15th, you should get all the nights.

Marriott changed the terms to allow later registration. Here are the terms for the 50 night version. Someone who is signed up for the 5,000 version could check on that one:
•Registration is required.
•Marriott Rewards® members who register for this promotion by December 15, 2016 will earn 10,000 bonus points after ten (10) paid nights – maximum 50,000 bonus points for nights between September 15, 2016 and January 15, 2017, at participating Marriott® properties.
•*A stay is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity.
•Retroactive stays will not count towards this promotion.
•Nights spent while redeeming an award are not eligible for credit and Marriott Vacation Club® owner-occupied weeks are not eligible for credit.
•Only one room per hotel is counted toward a member’s nights or stay. Members electing to earn miles are not eligible for this promotion.

No awards of any kind have ever counted toward any Marriott promos (or promos in most other hotel programs) before.
And points and cash stays in all programs I've seen are categorized as award stays, not paid stays.
So I'm 99.9% sure they don't count, but I don't know of any "hard proof" to point to.

This incorrect. I know FOR SURE Hyatt Points and Cash count for Promos and Paid stays, that's why I asked.

But the problem is that the latest version of points & cash at Marriott is only a few months old (the predecessor was nothing more than a way booking some nights as points and others as cash):
so there's not that much experience with it yet necessarily.
There's only been the small Summer promo since it was implemented, which for most people required at most 6 nights, and so I don't know if anyone's even tried the "for real" version of points + cash with any Marriott promo yet.
So you can either "experiment" yourself, or else you may have to wait for someone else to "experiment", before you'll have a definite answer.
As to how to actively "experiment": I would suggest doing a one-night points+cash stay early in the promo period, and then seeing if it updates your progress counter toward the promo. If not, you'll then have plenty of time to make it up with a paid stay (to get to a 10/20/30/40/50 night threshold). Another good experiment would be a 10-night points+cash stay (anytime in the promo period): It either gets you exactly to another threshold or not. I would not suggest an experiment which is a less-than-10-night stay late in the promo period, because that will be hard to make up if it doesn't count.
(Passively "experimenting" would be if you absolutely need a points+cash stay during the promo anyway, in that case just wait to see whether it updates your progress counter or not.)

I almost never read the hotel forums but I'm glad I did.
As usual I got zero emails from Marriott about this and my promotions page on marriott.com never even mentioned this.
I'm signed up but already missed my stay last week at a Residence Inn and will miss most of my stay this week in Chicago.
Maybe gone are the days where we could earn 35K, 40K or 50K bonuses for Visa-paid stays?

I have stayed loyal to Marriotts for 20 years as business traveler (Lifetime Platinum). This "promotion" is another reminder as to why I havent stayed at a Marriott in the last 6 months-

50 nights in 4 months for a measly 50k points (add in the additional insult of 10 night hurdles in between)? I'm just coming of the RC Summer promotion where I earned 120k points for TEN nights in a Ritz Carlton.
Since this promo started, I've logged an additional 8 nights in RC properties....and I'm 80% of way to 10k points. Whoop-de-do. I might hit 20k if I'm lucky.

Have an upcoming stay where I have booked 2 rooms from my account and will pay for both, one for myself, another for a friend.
As an example, my room is for October 10-14 and my friend's is for October 12-14, so my friend's reservation is within the time I'm staying, but not identical to my own reservation.
I can earn points for both, but has anyone had experience where you earn promotional night credit for both? Since the points will post separately, being under 2 different confirmation numbers, I was wondering if there might be 6 nights that count for the fall promotion instead of 4.
