Is it Marriott or Hilton that does this?

I promise I will write it down so I'll remember forever, but please help:

I'm pretty sure one of them (MR or HH) does NOT give you points on a paid night if any other night in your reservation is on points. I'm not talking about "cash & points", but rather if you have one night completely on points, and the next night paying full cash.

If it's neither MR or HH, that's great, but I'm very confused right now. Did a search and hundreds of "points" references came up.

It must be Hilton, or at least it's not Marriott.

Cheers.

Great!

Can I post the same question on the Hilton board or will that be considered duplicate posting?

That would be considered duplicate posting. My recommendation would be to PM canarsie, one of the mods of the forum & ask him your question.

Cheers.

It's Hilton. As a longtime Diamond member I can assure you it's Hilton. One thing I appreciate about Marriott is that they don't do this.

I just called HHonors and they said it was NOT true - if you book one night on points and the next pay cash, you will definitely earn points on the cash night.

So now I'm more confused than ever - Westcoaster, can you point me where it says in writing that we will not earn points for the paid night?

I'll look right now. Wouldn't it be nice if they've changed their policy to compete w/Marriott?

Found it:

"...If at least one night of the Member's stay is consumed with the use of HHonors Rewards Points, the entire stay is considered a "Reward Stay" and no HHonors Points may be earned, except that if Member is using Room Upgrade Rewards, any money spent on the original reservation will earn points and/or miles consistent with these Terms...

This is from the Accrual of Points section, item #3 in:

http://hhonors3.hilton.com/en/terms/...rual_of_points

As far as I know these are the most recent T & C's.

Edited to add: I know this issue has been discussed on the Hilton forum a number of times but I agree it's hard to find the right combination of search terms to narrow down the field of threads.

The notes app on your phone is a good place to store these type of references.

Thanks - I guess.

How can the Hhonors reps that answer the phones be so misinformed?

Easy to remember now: "H"ilton is "H"orrible

Actually, what the rep said, was that "since they would have separate confirmation numbers, you would get the points since it was a separate reservation". But I'm not going to take any chances, will stick with one or the other.

(And I do apologize for this being on the Marriott forum, I had a 50/50 chance of posting it in the correct place and failed).

No, it's just a fact that many CSRs make things up, HH or otherwise. I once called about not getting some bonus points I was due and the phone rep assured me that HH would never offer such a deal! I asked for her supervisor and was told she was a supervisor. I persisted in my claim and she went away for several minutes and came back saying she'd just returned from maternity leave and hadn't caught up with her emails. Never apologized, but did issue the bonus points.

We are responsible for knowing what is allowed and must fight for what's due. Very sad state of affairs for support these days.

as for hilton - you can prob use award under spouse name or your name with some variation and dont attach hh number - just check out and then check in for paid stay.. what a bizarre rule...

Let me fix that for you. How can (any) rep of (any) program, whether airline or hotel chain, be misinformed? They shouldn't be, but it happens all the time.

Cheers.

Not sure how you could do this...to get an award stay, you need an HHonors number. And to get points, you need an HHonors number. So you can't put the non-HHonors spouse on either one. If both have an account, maybe possible, but still the aggravation of checking in/checking out, maybe having to move rooms.

But it's fine, I'm just going to stick to all paid or all points stays - easier that way.

I'm just not sure how they think a paid night makes it an "all award" stay with no earned points - crazy.
