Is it Marriott or Hilton that does this?

Found it:
"...If at least one night of the Member's stay is consumed with the use of HHonors Rewards Points, the entire stay is considered a "Reward Stay" and no HHonors Points may be earned, except that if Member is using Room Upgrade Rewards, any money spent on the original reservation will earn points and/or miles consistent with these Terms...
This is from the Accrual of Points section, item #3 in:
http://hhonors3.hilton.com/en/terms/...rual_of_points
As far as I know these are the most recent T & C's.
Edited to add: I know this issue has been discussed on the Hilton forum a number of times but I agree it's hard to find the right combination of search terms to narrow down the field of threads.

I was lairy about mixing points with paid stays at Marriott for a long time because a HH friend (yes, I'm ashamed, but what can I say, his boss has no taste, or appreciation of value!) told me he didn't get points in these stays. I just assumed it was one of those universal rules, like the rule that redemption nights didn't count for status, and they didn't in those days! Then one day I tacked an extra couple of advance purchase nights onto a redemption stay without thinking and nearer the trip when I realised what I'd done started kicking myself. The points however credited fine and I've done it many times since, in fact I have a couple of nights tagged onto a redemption week at Miami Beach very soon.

I say this nicely, but reading the T&Cs of the Hilton program would answer your question or asking the question on the Hilton forum, including any future Hilton-oriented questions
Here's the link to the accrual of points section on Hilton's website:

The "crazy rule" for Hilton applies to cash+reward stay, not paid only or reward only.
Getting back to this forum's focus (ie, Marriott), it's been determined the crazy rule does not apply to Marriott.
Cheers.

No worries. At this point the question has been answered & if someone else ever has the same one re: Marriott or Hilton, they'll find the answer.
If you do have more specific questions related to Hilton though, that would be the forum to post them.
Enjoy your stay, whichever one you choose!
Cheers.

I generally have multiple reservations, since that is the only way you can do this on-line unless you call the CS Desk. I have found that the paid reservation is treated like any other and I get the points that are due. The reward is treated like any other and you get the stay credit. I have several of these mixed stays coming up, so I will track them to make sure.
