I'm Marriott platinum, and my wife is planning a stay in the Renaissance Downtown Toronto, without me, booked through my account.
Would she still have access to the concierge lounge? or is that strictly tied to the account holder?
thanks,
jesternl

The best way to ensure that your wife will receive your elite benefits would be to make the reservation in your name and then call and add your wife to the reservation so that she can check-in separately. As long as the primary reservation is in your name, anyone who checks into that room should get your benefits.

Member benefit are for the benefit of the member, not family and friends. The property should request your presence before granting benefits. Now in real life, many mess up and extend benefits based upon the name on the reservation. If you add her name to the reservation she will be able to check in. When they see your status they may go ahead and set up the lounge access. She can ask nicely about access when checking in but should not say you will not be arriving.

One other thing to consider is that with mobile check-in, room cards are typically coded in advance of arrival.

That's as it should be. Elite benefits belong to the elite member. They're not to be given to friends and family.

The bottom line is you can hope your wife gets access if you add her to the ressie, but don't complain if she doesn't. It's really a case of YMMV on it happening. Dif properties/FDC automatically key access for both; others wait until the elite member arrives.
I'm not as uptight as others on it being elite only & not given to mum/dad/wife/hubby on the infrequent times they might be traveling w/o the elite, but the elite wants to do good by them.
I am a big believer in if they do extend you the courtesy you be grateful for it knowing they didn't have to do so, and if they don't you don't get bent out of shape for them for following the T&Cs.
Cheers.

Question: if you use OLCI with her as Guest 2, will she be able to pick up the keys at the OLCI counter? This has the advantage that the room is already assigned and the keys coded for lounge access well before the guest arrives, but it's a moot point if only Guest 1 can do it... I can't recall any personal experiences with doing this.

Took me a few moments to decipher that: OLCI = on-line check in?
