My roommates and I booked a Marriott hotel in March 2016 taking advantage of the book 4, get the 5th night free promo. Each night is 40,000 points so we need 160,000. Roommate one has 63,000 points, I have 53,000 points, and roommate two has 53,000 points.
What I planned on doing was transferring 50,000 points to roommate one in 2015 and roommate 3 transfer 50,000 points in 2016. I thought we could transfer 50,000 points/yr as long as we were "domestic partners', but after reading through the terms a little closer I see "only one Reward request per Reward Redemption, please". Does that mean we can't transfer more than one chunk to the same reservation?
Also, I messed up today when I called Marriott to ask about that clause because I said it was my roommate, and she said transfers are only allowed for spouses and when I brought up the domestic partner clause she rudely said "I'm not gonna buy that because you already said he's your roommate"
Does anyone have any experience with transferring Marriott points? If they simply require a form to be filled out, signed and sent in couldn't that leave us hope of it going through as long as my roommate calls in and requests a form for domestic partner transfer, or are we SOL?
Currently we have different addresses on our accounts, but that could easily be changed to the address that we share if need be.
Appreciate any feedback!

There will be details on the 12th for information on transferring points between accounts without the spouse limitation.

The helpline has certainly correctly described the current scheme that expires today, namely choose hotel, call, advise spouses/domestic partner account, transfer points necessary to redeem, note this could be almost all the points for the redemption.
The new scheme will be much simpler, any friend or family member can transfer to someone else, but as I understand it limited to 50,000 points in any year. I don't know whether the recipient will also be limited to recieving only 50,000pa, or whether a recipient could receive multiple gifts form multiple friends totalling far more. The devil here is going to be in the detail which will be published tomorrow. If it's a straight limit on both giving and recieving 50,000 in any one year then you'll need to use the plan you describe, you transferring now and your other friend transferring at the beginning of 2016. It should work as this change takes effect tomorrow, 12th October.
Don't forget, room-mate 1 can reserve the redemption now even though he/she doesn't yet have the points...
