OP don't give up just call it in and ask for it again. At minimum they will give you a Platinum challenge. It is very very important that 50 percent of active HHonors members stop staying at HHonors brands until Dec 31 2020.

Ok, I'll bite. Is this some sort of organized protest given the terrible devaluations over the years or some tongue in cheek poke?

Excellent plan joshua362 "organized protest given the terrible devaluations over the years" This is exactly the reason I hope 50% stop staying at HHonors brand but only til the year 2021. Do you think starting a thread by that name will help?

Don't get what the year has to do with it or if you are really serious! But in any event, I don't think any protest will work, they all devalue and suck in some regard and the grass is always greener somewhere else... And only a tiny % of travelers, mostly on FT, care.

Thank you for your posts joshua362. Yes I am very serious. I picked 2020 because I am guessing it will take a couple of years to get enough customers to leave HHonors and a few more years for HHonors to really feel it and make changes. Also 2020 has a nice ring to it.

I'd concur with that. A few months ago I sent an email to Marriot HQ complimenting a specific service experience at the Marriot Metarie. I got this bizarrely structured email in return. I truly thought it was an automated system using fuzzy logic to craft a response by merging sentences I wrote with boilerplate text because the outcome was unreadable.

Fortunately my original message was sent to the GM at the hotel, who sent me a really nice thank you email obviously written by a human. He had read my email to the individual and the entire hotel staff, and put it in the individuals personnel file. It made my day that all that happened.

Update: Well I called today was offered a gold challenge for 6 nights told the rep that I would complete that by the end of next week. Told that a Plat challenge not available, as she could only upgrade me to that challenge based on I was already requested one the other day. Declined request told her I would just continue staying with my current hotel chain. Moral of the story, call and ask don't send an email as they record this information to your account. Also this was the supervisor on duty.

I though MR Gold is not bad. you got upgrade and lounge benefit. if i remember platinum benefit is only marginal to gold.

For some, it is all about the label.

I thought Marriott stopped doing challenges last year?

In my experience, the MR Gold upgrade benefit is mostly theoretical. And no lounge access at resorts.

I guess you really showed her!

Congrats on such a positive outcome.

I thought resort has no lounge and they give free breakfast instead? I just experienced it on 1 of the Autograph Collection last week.

I am quite happy to be MR Gold but too bad I can't keep it beyond Feb 2015 as there are not many Marriott in Asia
