Cancelling LNF rate

Hi all, I have a successful LNF in which I booked 9 rooms. We were doing a self guided group tour to Vietnam. Well, our trip got postponed and I cancelled the LNF rate booking online, which on the reservation details page it shows that I can cancel up to the date prior to arrival. Well, the hotel manager emailed me and stated he had charged my credit card and that it was an advanced purchase rate? The original booking rate was indeed advanced purchase, but I have always thought that once LNF is approved, it becomes a flexible rate as I have cancelled other LNF rates with no problems in the past? Has someone else had experience cancelling LNF rate booking? Thanks

Do you have a PDF or anything that shows the reservation's cancellation policy? That should be evidence that you need to fight the charge.

OP says he's got some copy of the "reservations page" showing a cancellation page up to the day before scheduled arrival. If that's the case and the charge actually does show up, simply initiate a chargeback and be prepared to submit the copy of the reservations page showing the cancellation policy.

Thanks for the reply. I called marriot customer care and they acknowledged that my reservation does say cancellable one day prior to arrival. However, they won't budge on the fact that the original rate was a special advanced purchase rate and thus being no refundable. They attribute the problem to a flaw in the system and said only thing they can do is ask the hotel if they would issue a refund but it would be a goodwill gesture and the hotel is not obligated to do so. Is there a marriot lurker here on FT?

The original rate should have been cancelled within 24 hours, ie when the LNF was approved.
