Can we prepay Marriott Visa?

My wife recently signed up and received a Marriott Visa with CHASE in Canada. We will likely use this card a lot next year as there is NO Foreign Exchange Fee (no 2.5% like everyone else).

Two questions...

1) Can we prepay the card with 10-15,000 dollars so we can purchase RTW flights on it? I think her credit limit is $2500?

2) Anyone have any idea if you really save 2.5% or does chase using artificailly inflated exchange rates?

I can't answer the first, but as far as exchange rate on my recent trip Chase effectively charged me the same rate as my bank did for ATM withdrawals (accounting for daily fluctuations). And unrelatedly the chip worked everywhere I tried it (Europe and Asia).

Chase won't let you make a payment unless you have a balance and you won't be able to make that high of a payment for that low of a balance.
You should try and call chase to have them increase your wife's credit limit. Tell them you will be using the card a lot and will be making high amount purchases. I've done it and they doubled my credit limit.

That was my experience as well. I got a fair exchange rate for ATM withdrawals as well as on purchases.

What you can do (at least in the US) is to program multiple payments spread 3 days apart for your statement balance or your current balance. Thus, if your current balance is $3K, you could very well put in 5 payments of $3K spread over 15 days, resulting in a $12K credit.

However, I don't know if you would still hit your credit limit when trying to make the single purchase for RTW tickets.

Cheers,

Looks like we will just have to make a trial purchase to see

I was thinking of making a purchase for a few hundred dollars and then make a payment to the card for $16,000 and then see if I can purchase the tickets.

I'll call and ask if I can do this.
